possibly the name of Mary, mother of Jesus… well, I am Portuguese and a catholic, so I am well informed about what I will explain :<br /> The name of Fátima was associated with Mary, mother of Jesus, only after the year of 1917 , because in the 13th of May, 3 shepard children had a vision of Mary . That vision would repeat several times, and Mary would talk to those 3 children( whom were , later, been declared saints by the Church) , and that vision happened in the whereabouts of a Portuguese small village called FÁTIMA . ( apparently, a previous episode of a child seeing Mary had already occurred near that same place, in 1758).So from that time on , the name of Fatima became very dear to catholics, and big pillgrinages take place in the sanctuary of Fatima, built after that episode.<br /> And now the curious part: how come a Portuguese catholic small village was named after the daughter of the Prophet Mohammad? <br /> It so happens that Portugal and Spain were , in the past ( from 711AC till 1492 AC) , occupied parcially or almost completely by arabs , wich lead to a miscigenation , be it ethnical, cultural, etc. <br /> Although historical records are not available, a legend tells us that by the year of 1158 ( give or take) there was a moorish princess , named Fatima, who married a Catholic noble, after those lands were conquered by him to Cristianity .
