I keep it more likely Tiana and the others in this movie spoke French. The name Dr. Facilier also sounds French to me to back this up. English became more common in that region later. (New Orleans was originally Nouveaux Orléans).</p> <p>Some characters can be debatable, like Ariel and Rapunzel, Ariel's country is never mentioned and Rapunzel even lives in a fictional country (Kingdom of Corona), so the language was assumed by the nationality of their writers (In Ariel's case Andersen, and in Rapunzel's case an unknown writer from origin that's now Germany, later retold by the Grimm brothers) But the nationality of the author does not always say much about where the story takes place, which is shown by the novel "A dog from Flanders" which takes place in Belgium, yet its author was American and had never been in Belgium. And now "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ice Queen" on which "Frozen" was based were, if I remember correctly from the same author (Hans Christian Anderson), and yet we get one story in Danish and the other in Norwegian? (Andersen was Danish btw). Now in Frozen I don't remember the name of an (existing) nation ever being mentioned, maybe that's different in the original "Ice Queen" story? (After all, Disney did completely destroy the original story, already given by the fact that Anna doesn't exist in the original. There is a Gerda if I remember correctly, in the original who comes close to the role of Anna, however unlike Anna, she was not the Ice Queen's sister, nor otherwise related in blood at all). </p> <p>Now it was a surprise to see Anastasia pass by. Never known Disney created that one.</p> <p>Now a nice fun fact. A language now missing due to the action of Walt Disney himself could be Dutch. The studios had plans to do Reynard the Fox, a very old tale written in Diets, the mother language of Dutch. And since Diets is no longer spoken, I guess Dutch would have to do. However as Walt Disney didn't want a story in which the villain (Reynard) would win (as that is what happens, although Reynard merely uses all evil in people against them), and as he didn't want the give out the message that crime could be rewarding (and in a certain sense Reynard does get all good stuff and safely gets out of trouble all the time) they changed to a criminal who was more acting in the name of "good", and as a compromise Robin Hood was turned into a fable form, with Robin himself depicted as a fox. However since Robin Hood is from English origin, the native language now suddenly turned into English. Now I really must check if unlike the "Prince of Thieves" adaption of Robin Hood…. did the Disney version speak with a proper English accent? (In which "proper English" really means the way they speak it in England.
