how's the linguistics major in Canada MCmaster or Uni of Alberta? I am applying for these two.
If you are using stats to understand large corpora of text then you should rename this as statistical linguistics.
Thanks for this, I'm considering getting a degree in computational linguistics and this gave some insight as to what I can expect 🙂
Language is arbitrary, especially written English.
@Jordan I’m a lover of languages as well as technology but I haven’t touched math in 15 years and I’m not a programmer. I’d like to explore this field but is there a “softer” entry for those of us who are more linguist than statistician?
I love linguistics but I’m rusty in math. I took calculus in high school, does it get any more complicated than that?
thank you
Thank you for all the explanations Prof Jordan. Really helpful.
I'm trying to figure out what I might want to do at the intersection of my computer science and global studies majors. I really like learning about both human and computer languages, and as I said to my mum just now, I kind of want to just "get paid to learn" Ideally I could just travel to different countries learning languages and studying and stuff, but this might be a more practical direction to head in considering finances. It would probably be helpful for the computer scientists working on these projects to have some experience and interest in language learning! I knew computers and human language certainly come together, but I never knew computational linguistics was something you could get a degree in! I should look into this more, thank you
hi Jordan where i can find your full course to follow.
In which college do you teach?
Thank you for uploading your videos. I will finish my bachelor's degree in linguistics and think about doing my master's in CL. I have no knowledge about coding and my maths skills are a bit weak. So I will try to use your course to prepare myself. Thanks a lot 😊
Great video!!!! Thank You.
Can I study it as master degree if i studied applied linguistics ?
