Keynote Title: Hybrid Intelligence: AI Systems that Collaborate with People Instead of Replacing Them
Keynote Lecturer: Frank van Harmelen
Presented on: 04/11/2020, Online Streaming
Abstract: Much of current AI research is implicitly aimed at building systems thatreplace humans: self-driving cars to replace Uber drivers, translationsoftware replacing interpreters, image analysis software replacingradiologists. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that machineintelligence will be rather different from human intelligence. It istherefore more interesting to build AI systems that collaborate inhybrid teams of people and machine, in order to combine theircomplementary skills. This will require that we start asking a whole setof new research questions. How to equip AI systems with a “theory ofmind” to make them collaborative? How to make AI systems adaptive tochanges in the team and the environment? How to instill moral valuesinto these systems? And of course how to make them explainable? We willoutline a research agenda for hybrid intelligence and present some earlyresults from researchers worldwide into hybrid intelligence.
