Hi Lex, I think one has to factor in that the human mind is an endpoint so to speak, endpoints like databases can consume colossal amounts of information, and it doesnt need to be organised either, as the mind has some kind of super query, that is able to summon data as a "search", rather than searching for it. At least this is my experince and general observation. Since we we know we are the one who summons data, we know we are not the database, also .. we know we are not somewhere else, rather we are in the same "house/body" where the data resides. On free will .. the classification of random, gives me the reasoning to accept that we have free will and the ability to diverge from a plan :), meaning that there is planning, but we are free to distrupt it (I am not expanding on what planning is, as this comment would be too long. The gravity of the plan, is very powerful and very rarely allows you to change permanently. The gravity of which I speak is the sum of what you are all encompassing, and crusted with the "impact and perception" of all your experiences. I could carry on forever on this … thanks for making me think 🙂 have a great day.

3. It's possible to make those predictions , particularly if you put someone in Time-Lock ,

   However, We all Know humans were created with Free Will, simply because something has scanned brain waves and studied vocal cadence and actions, coupled with Mind Control programs, a stronger consciousness would evolve beyond those programs given enough time (we always return to homeostasis) , the consciousness itself would begin to predict what those predictive programs intend to do, and find a way to outwit them.

   It's an endless battle guys, thus far

5. The question is not can you build a machine which can past the touring test but can you past the touring test yourself. Is this reality enough for you to believe you exist? Iow did the matrix work?

As a child i always dreamed about me beeing a "lil cube" and i had to hide in some corners of the "space" arround me in Order to "make it" (Thats what i felt, that beeing caught from them big Cubes and Clouds wouldnt be good )…but now i do think that wasnt dreaming at all…but me as in my early conicousness trying to surrvive a heavy Lung Infection wich i had while only beeing 3 months old. i was hospitalized for 2 months and almost died.

12. This guy, Scott Aaronson, he's a very elegant thinker. I LOVE how he thinks. Lex's thinking seems more like idiocy camouflaged as intellectualism.

13. A perfect simulacrum of a person’s brain could not possible predict ‘everything’ that brain would do/think…for example, the real brain could develop a disease from environmental interactions which never affect the simulated one…

14. I beg you pardon ..why? Why you must destroy the person to see if neurones are nano robots??? Why must be something material…cause it's the only way to measure, weight, etc?

15. Entropy Is .. And entropy ensures "predictions" would become less and less probable with every successive generation of prediction. New computations would have to be made after every outcome and you still wouldn't accurately predict every decision a person would make in a lifetime. Consider the Many Worlds / Multiverse theory that suggests a new universe pops up for every possible outcome of an event, at the end of this infinity you would likely find an Earth with humans that don't resemble anything like our current Selves.

The only reason modern data collectors can occasionally predict a person's behavior is because, the current system Interface for information (internet) is programmed by algorithms to suggest material of general interest and suck you into a feed-back loop. This is not random prediction processing with any sort of accuracy. It's like a small form of heroine, addicts are easy to predict.

20. I like the idea of consciousness as a measure of a black box reacting to the complexity of its surroundings. If limited to just a game of chess the AI would look stupid in comparison to a black box dealing with i.e. reality. Perhaps a formula can be designed comparing the degrees of freedom and the survival ratios. A fitness function is essential to put the AI to the test.
