I think these artificial models lack a mechanism for consciousness, self awareness, or will. Nobody has bothered to design or impement it and simply expecting consciousness out of a non living thing is absurd.
This is actually a very good idea, I agree. Perhaps not foolproof, but it's hard to see how that wouldn't be INCREDIBLY suggestive…
