I think that the fundamental mistake is treating phenomenal content as the same thing as intentional content. Memory is, after all, intentional and phenomenal (an emphasis on one aspect at the expense of another provides for neat little arguments that miss the mark by a mile). That and and taking a ride on Jeffrey Epstein's personal jet. That's always a mistake!
I find this arguement somewhat similar to the ideas presented in the conference in this video. https://youtu.be/kwgNVuex7co
Its interesting how these arguements can be related.
What is the difference? You are way too loaded on analysis – calm down
Occam's razor please..
Daniel Dennett does not belong to this channel.
He has a fun sci-fi-philophy-story called, "where am I", that I recommend, that's about the self, again it's a fun read
Kurds are getting murdered by Turkish facist army.
Viva Ukraine πΊπ¦, and Viva Kurdistan πΉπ―.
Shame on NATO and west for being silent.
he uses words wrong. he is like the superficial B.F. Skinner of philosophers trying too hard. "Mistake, wrong" these are strong words for pushing a flimsy alternative to ideas not that much less powerful. It's almost like he already knows he is right he just doesn't know what it is yet. Which is obviously ridiculous
my point is he makes his point sound stronger than it is, and is very annoying at it; as it is a point shared with many other people, except that they don't use the words wrong. it's like he is sitting in front row, and says we should all move up a seatrow. dude; we are already at front row, shut up! it's called materialism!
no need for big words like "illusion" and " mistake" it only confuses good old natured materialists that are already on your side! what do you want from us? you are asking too much!
01:00 "I think. Therefore I am."
– Descartes, famous quote
And he thinks that Descartes was wrong about this. How? It's a such a beautiful quote, that makes perfect sense. Just think about it, for a moment. You feel a great deal of satisfaction, just from realising the truth in this statement. So I think that the speaker is wrong here.
hahaha Where are ANY of the other minds in our world?????? From the comments I've read…. NOBODY else has ever wondered? I guess anybody you talk to is another mind???? Well, that's nice and everybody is your friend!
Very interesting psychological theories that have nothing to do with the issues raised by Descartes.
Yep – he has a bloated sense of his ideas (theories) being right. His arrogance turns me off.
I am so obviously and undeniably conscious and aware of my own thoughts right now. I can't believe it when materialists like Dennett try to convince me otherwise.
Sight isn't consciousness. He is simply discussing an optical illusion, nothing more.
Just because the edge itself cannot be perceived directly or made objective doesn't mean there is no meaningful distinction between perception and perceptual memory. Bergson has some nice explanations of this in his, i believe, matter and memory
