[CN: ableism, ableist slurs] Ableism, specifically casual/benevolent ableism is widely accepted in our society, particularly within our language. Ableism is commonly used to insult others or in order to describe something negative and often times people don’t even realize where the words they are using come from and how they perpetuate the idea that people with disabilities are lesser. NOTE: Okay, so many of you took the part where I mention harmful language campaigns and the word “lame” very literally, however the intention was more of a lighthearted segway to explain how the word came to be used today.
