The New York Times called Robert Lanza “One of the three most important scientists alive today.”
Here is what Lanza – who initiated the idea of a Biocentric Universe, has to say about beliefs in the independent existence of an ‘external world’.

Dr Lanza you open my closed mind to so many possibilities.
A number of questions come up here.
A. How is a particle observed? Certainly not with the naked eye. special detectors are used that give an image that represents the particle. So how is a particle observed? using exactly what technique. .
Then comes the obvious question how do you know what a particle is doing if it is not observed in the first place. That is the whole idea of not observing something so that you don't know what it is doing.
Does a computer perhaps do the observing instead then latter the results are observed ?
It is like asking the question"if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one to hear it does it make noise?
Awesome and ground breakin.
I'm a fan of Kant and Schopenhauer, but Idealism just doesn't seem completely agreeable to me.
I'm more in favour of the process based ontology of guys like A. N. Whitehead, David Bohm, or Friedrich Nietzsche.
In any case I don't think materialism is at all tenable.
Is There a 'Real' World Out There?
Yep, the world WE all live in.
This just made me think is distance an illusion
shame its so short
I'd love to hear more from him. Especially about his new book "Beyond Biocentrism," which was very good, by the way. I have a feeling his theory gets much more in depth. From the writing in the new book it seems like he wants to say more about the implications of this theory but is holding back. Please have a talk with him again as soon as possible. Very interesting!
Whether what he's claiming is ultimately an accurate model or not set aside, the examples he cites here don't seem to support his idea of the world not being 'out there'.
The two slit experiment doesn't involve just 'watching' particles as an 'observer' with consciousness, it involves making choices to set the apparatus one way or another & drawing conclusions from the results.
Similarly, both the uncertainty principle & entanglement can be understood in terms of a strange/ non-intuitive-to-a-macro-mindset, but 'objective' universe. Just citing quantum strangeness doesn't seem to be evidence for consciousness creating or affecting matter.
That being said, I'll see if the library has his book.
What is a poticle?
Robert Lanza is a courageous genius.
So much admiration for Robert Lanza, I can't recommend the Biocentrism book enough.
The Monistic Idealist can affirm an external reality, they can just say its fundamentally mental. Or they could deny an external reality and affirm a purely subjective idealism that is still monistic. Monistic Idealism is quite flexible and coheres with various commitments.
