We enjoyed the R&S readers too. I would have liked some color, but I don't know. Maybe it helped to keep my son focused on the content.
We currently use Sonlight for LA & reading and I love their books/literature however I want to try TGTB LA as Sonlight's is kinda boring. Do your kids not find it boring reading from just 1 book all year (1 reader)? I assume they get other books assigned as well. I think I heard another TGTB video say that it says to read for "10 min" for one of the TGTB levels. Is that how Level 2 works?
Are there any people of color in the illustrations?
Are you still using this? I was thinking of using this in conjunction with a Waldorf I inspired curriculum… I know you have used similar types of things, are they too different or would they pair well together? I should note that I'm new to this homeschooling thing.
Did you pay to have it spiral-bound or you bought it directly from the good and the beautiful? Do your kids write directly on the pages or do you make copies of those pages so that they are not writing in the book?
I really dislike sentence diagramming myself. I'm an amateur writer too and what did help me is knowing my adverbs, adjectives, passive and active voice etc. I mostly learned this by being made to rewrite things or finding these things in my own writing. I could diagram but it did nothing for me. I'm sure it might for some kids/people but I don't think it helps very much with writing.
If you don't like the "legal requirement" to test, join an umbrella school. You DO have to pay them a yearly fee but it's not much if you want to avoid testing and teaching for the test. I'm jealous that you have a Lorelai. I have a Loretta who would have been a Lorelai if I had my way. Love minimalist homeschooling!! Sometimes seeing fancy schoolrooms and people buying expensive curricula and then supplementing with ANOTHER $40 book or subscription makes you feel inferior even if it shouldn't.
Thanks for this review! And I like your attitude on homeschool!
you did such a great review on these, I ordered level 1 for my 7 year old boy, AAR was so ok, but I wasn't crazy about it!
Thank you for the review
Do you feel like this is more one on one or can it be independant? My son did great in the reading and moat spelling but doesn't know the grammar for level. At age 11 and with 5 other littles I'm looking for something he can do more on his own with occasional help.
Thank you so much for posting these videos! We took the course assessments and were right on the cusp for both of my kids. Watching these helped me know which level to order. You're amazing and your videos are well done. Thank you!
Love this… and I'm totally with you on the art and colors … love colors and pretty things ☺️
LOVE LOVE THIS!! We are going to be doing this very soon, as soon as I can purchase them. They are affordable, even at our low income; this series is such a blessing. I wish I could hug Jenny Phillips for doing this program with love and beauty. HUGGING through cyber space!
OMG! I have been desperately looking for something like this. I have never heard of this it llooks amazing! thank you thank you thank you for sharing!
Hi! It looks like my question I asked about a month ago disappeared. :/
I'm not sure where to start my daughter. I did the assessment for level 2 they had and she did well. She's 7 almost 8 and is at a 4th grade reading level but has not had any formal grammar teaching yet…which level would you recommend?
Q – did you go with the PDF"s or the Printed? TY in advance..
OH my goodness!!! If I could reach through cyber land and hug you right now… I so would!! I've never heard about this!! TY so much for sharing. Wow! huhhhh… I'm really thinking that this would be so great for my eldest sweet girly dealing w/ high functioning ASD (and our only school aged child at the moment..).. Can we please be neighbors already?? Sorry, it's a thing I have.. desperately wanting to be neighbors w/ all of our favorite homeschoolers/ youtubers.. LOL! 😉
Question. Right now since I found this mid year we've just been doing the free download and will order physical materials for the fall. The advanced readers are separate, right?? We just got to the lesson with The Lumber Camp Library. Is that in the reader? We ordered it but I'm not sure if we needed to. How many other readers do we need to be prepared to purchase/get from the library?
This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for taking time to show us so much of the inside. I love Rod and Staff readers too so I could see this being a great curriculum to transition to if we need a change at some point.
