Neuroscientist attempts to explain consciousness in an elevator ride

ABC Science

There are lots of hard problems in science. But only one is called the hard problem and that’s consciousness. How does our brain shape our entire perspective of the world? Neuroscientist, Dr Sarah McKay, does her best to explain in an elevator ride… AND THINGS DON’T QUITE GO TO PLAN!

If you love being in awe of the human body and mind then check out the Catalyst documentary, Face Surgeons. We go behind the scenes to look at what lies beneath the face. Australians can watch here: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/catalyst

  1. Who is the host? Talk about a mind you would like to know. She has energy in her walk. Smile in her eyes, patient-curiosity simultaneously with you-can-go-faster at the same time in her nod. She asks real questions that matter in a time period that's practical. She has the guts to ask what she knows won't have slam dunk answers. When something goes wrong she is humble, almost to her knees, accepting, but she can't help showing her natural emotional leadership with genuine laughter which you catch even as a viewer. Then she tops it off with compassion for the dying. Respect. More of her please.
