Still Life – A song about love – From Angry Heads With Skyward Eyes [1996]

Lyrics:
This is a song about love.
And when we turn our backs we tune it out.
Colder and colder we turn it off.
If there ever was true love for life,
it’s gone. Where has it gone?
Life burns inside our hearts,
but we’re losing touch.
We’re losing ground.
Traditions of killing passed on and on.
Life burns inside our souls,
but we discriminate to show our hate.
So easily we detach ourselves from how other people feel…

This is a song about hate.
Ripping and tearing down,
we smash it burn it to the ground.
Escalate the greed that fuels our hate.
In our struggle for power we generalize,
if fear of difference we buy their lies.
We don’t realize the pain we create.
Life burns inside our hearts,
but we’re losing touch,
we’re losing ground.
Traditions of killing passed on and on.
Life burns inside our souls,
but we discriminate to show our hate.
So easily we detach ourselves from how other people feel…

  1. People say "THIS IS EMO" and that "new emo sucks" but have any of y'all even listened? There are a ton of bands making music just like this right now. There is still good "emotive hardcore" out there. Also it's the fucking name of a genre and things evolve over time. Emo is a broad term. Twinkly guitars over emotional lyrics is as emo as this. Sorry if you can't accept that.

  2. Holy crap! I cannot believe this song exists on YouTube! Around 1990 or so I saw Still Life play at Casa Zimbabwe on the UC Berkeley campus (opening for Green Day no less) and was totally blown away. In my opinion, Still Life blew Green Day away that night and I spent some precious beer money on a demo tape that I still have. I've since converted that tape to MP3 and when the songs come up in shuffle I'm taken right back to that night.

  3. How can anyone pretend the "emo" of today is anything but sucky? THIS is emo!
Emotional hardcore. I was there when it started & I defend it in 2013. That first ENKILDLE
7" record, STILL LIFE, MOSS ICON, CURENT, INDIAN SUMMER, & a hundred other great–unknown to most–bands. This is true punk rock. This is true hardcore. This is true emo. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. vademask says so. ♥
