I am so humbled by this man. On so many levels I cannot explain, thank you for what you have provided me. My challenges do not amount to a hill of beans. If you can make it through this I can manage my little issues. Objectivity is fleeting and infinitely valuable and this podcast has it by the ton. We all owe this man a ton and perhaps not for the reasons we think.
1:30:40 Yeah… You did right by them Dakota. You are a hero. I will show this to my sons.
Dakota is a hero. Not because what he did but because he defied his command to save lives. I have heard his story 5x now. He is why we have MoH.
Sat here and listened to this podcast entirely in one sitting…
Jocko you are now the best podcast bar none the guests are always amazing your commentary is excellent .i am a lot older than u but I have much respect for u …please keep up doing what u doing
Jocko was trying to end the podcast and close it out at the 3 hour mark…. but he didn't want to be rude, so he stayed on for another 45 min with this guy
In our political climate right now, every single person should hear pain and unspoken fear in this podcast.
I'm so proud of you Dakota. I've watched numerous pod cast about you and I am really concerned for you. Going through what you've went through. experiencing such horrific events. I believe you are a true hero! Thank you for what you did for your brother soldiers! I hope to meet you one day, so I could shake your had.
I do believe the 40mm from the m203 needs about 12-14m distance for it to arm. For those that don't know.
“We gunned it back down the track” I only hope I would be that brave.
hahaha 12:06
the fog of war is thick with dead souls
I’m speechless… definitely buying the book.
The bravery of these men is unreal. Anyone that thinks they are having a bad day cuz your boss bitched at you or someone cut you off, watch one of these and your prospective on life will change very very fast. Thank you to the men who made the ultimate sacrifice in this story and many others that I have heard and read. 🙏🏽🇺🇸 I thank all of you and Jacko for making the content and Dakota for sharing your story
This is one of those podcasts you can sit and watch and not be bored
Excellent Sgt Meyer. Meaning and significance from the pain. Good man. Jocko Thank you for what you do. 🙏
Spats and Gators not Puddies. LoL
He didn’t fail. His superiors failed.
You made me cry a couple times during this interview, my prayers go out to you and I can't even imagine what you went through just know that you were loved in my prayers will always go out for you. I was in the army in 1977 I'm just without words right now I bought your book and I'm listening to it right now on audible thank you for all that you did for this country you're true hero in my book!
What a truly remarkable man with an amazing, powerful, and important story. The lessons or takeaways of his from his experiences are so wise, impactful, and beautiful. God bless Dakota. We all need to learn from this man.
Funny how some people understand the moment and some are clueless. Saw the same thing in Economics as a professor 25 years. "Higher ups" clueless and full of shit. Knowing the the subject at a very high level I can assure you if you have the natural instinct to fucking do shit (I worked construction 25 year as well) you are probably right in your assessment. People like DM just have that innate understanding most humans do not. FYI 80% of economics is English fairy tales about as accurate as Harry Potter.
ya know, I know ya know. ya know ya know once ya know
Sometimes people aren't stressed by trauma – they miss it.
Bro. That’s all I have to say.
3:13:20
Echo: I might drag this out a bit
Jocko: No.
Echo: Ok. So Origin Maine…
Lmao
God bless

1:58:00. Classic Cain and Able 👌
Bring me 115!
That was a wild story…..thank you for your service.
Spiritually A MAN OF HONOR THANK GODj
i love how much he cares for the afghans unlike other veterans
You watch this incredible story of extreme bravery and sacrifice then I think of these millionaire athletes on their f`n knees for our National Anthem… Sickening.
What a g-damn, fucked up shit show the toc and roe's caused. Somebody should pay
This is by FAR the best podcast i have ever watched/listened to, the shit this man has been through is worse than anyone can imagine. He is a true hero and it is sad that believes he is a failure.
It took me most of the day to watch this, I had to pause so many times. I was deeply moved by this podcast, I watch Dakota on Rogan and drinkingbros, I have always thought very highly of him, but my respect has gone up immensely!
That moment when Jocko read the part about Dakota killing the Afghan soldier with a rock, he looked up, and was scared shitless of Meyer lmao
People need to wake the F up and appreciate what these warriors do for our country. Shove your protest signs up your ass. I’d pay to shake Dakota’s hand to thank him. 🇺🇸
I'm on opportunities
Because We Were Brothers
I love how jockos service far exceeds Dakota but he respects Dakota and listens to his points.
We don’t want to destroy mud huts. Let them die. What a fucking joke. “Try your best” wtf dude. Unreal. The brass that let them men down that day should be charged with murder. I know war isn’t black and white it’s chaotic and messy but wtf dude. That’s really bad. Is it army or marine. How that would matter blows me away
Powerful..
I believe every word of Dakota Myers~DEEPLY!! This is a testimony of an EPIC BATTLE!! To all that try to demote his account of battle shame on you!! The bravery of this man is beyond your comprehension!! You can’t believe it because you are not in scope of enemies, being shot at in every direction, losing your brothers!! Dakota Myers you are a hero, you deserve the utmost respect!! You Sir, have opened my narrow eyes and I Salute you!! Thank God for the brave men and women who put their life on the line to protect the world from Evil!!! Some give some & Some gave ALL!!!
Jocko talked too much during this podcast.
I am really glad that he did put the part about his suicide attempt in there. If it helped just one person, then I think that's worth it. I am also grateful to whomever it was that took the rounds out of his firearm. As well as that thing he said about mental injuries being the same as physical injuries. You would never call someone with a liver or hear condition weak for fixing said condition. That would be the thing to do. Why do people dog on someone that is having mental issues for seeking to fix those issues? Especially since the brain is an organ and can have issues just like any other body part. It also happens to be the most complex organ, by leaps and bounds. Therefore, the problems it can suffer are more numerous and more complex and I wish that American society as well as humanity as a whole had a better understanding and acceptance of mental health issues and work towards fixing them. It seems as if we are moving in that direction, but not fast enough.
Jocko is so pissed at those commanders.
2:37:55 one of the hardest hitting moments ever recorded in my opinion. What a weight Jocko is able to capture paired with Dakota’s words.
Like he said about a cast and the mind, in these situations you where mentally, and emotionally injured. You have to protect it (cast), and then find a way for you to heal it. It’s a long hard fought process with not a single way that works for two people, but it’s the good fight. It’s the only fight. And it’s the one fight that we all are charged with helping each other fight, ESPECIALLY our veterans.
