Semantic memory is the reason Robert Spraggs scored so highly on his exams. He literally ACED them whereas others barely made the C+ grade.
In this video, I’m sharing with you not only semantic memory examples that will make it clear why this is such a powerful part of your mind to improve.
I’m not just comparing it against the episodic memory definition for the sake of clarity.
I’m also helping you understand what that this special level of memory is critical for language learning, remembering names and even symbols and numbers.

Powerful stuff, isn't it? What are your thoughts on semantic memory? Which of these 3 ways are you going to try first? Don't forget to check this one out next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71DYmsKGf7Y
You mentioned Mr. Darcy from the book Pride and Prejudice. You also mentioned the name Endel Tulving. I hope all is well in your part of the world.
Yay, I did remember the novel. Surprised myself. Mindfulness has been part of my world for a few years. I hadn't thought of it in context of improved memory but you just amply demonstrated it is. Coolness!
thank you for the content. I really like this video, it was very informative. My mind is starting to deteriorate so I need to find out how to change the direction I'm going in. I have a lot of trouble with semantic memory. I'm at 8 minutes in the video
You mention Mr. Darcy. Great stuff! Any book you can recommend about semantic memory? Looking forward to your next video on the Art of Memory.
MP’s helps to learn abstract concepts very fast. Recently I learned 15 stylistic devices (Metaphor, Alliteration etc.)
Thanks Dr.
Can we use famous chess game like Fischer's My 60 Memorable game as Memory Palace?

Do you have any idea why some people do not know lyrics to a song, no matter how long they have listened to the same/any song?
I don't want to sound like the typical know-it-all, but…
1. Nadel & Hardt comment that regarding semantic memory, 5 factors makes the difference from just "sensing" the mew content and then forgetting, and keep it in a long term memory storage (and thus being accesible as general knowledge). In case you wander what does factors are, these are: I) what was the input, Ii) where and when you received the input, iii) with whom, IV) how was you state of mind of the moment, v) whether that info was relevant for the future.
Regarding the Atkinson & Shriffers, there are some very heated debates about it, but nowadays is considered out of date because it doesn't explain many aspects of memory. Also, short term is not the same than working memory. Short term is information that you keep in your mind for short perioda of time. Consider it when you listen to music and you are able to recall the second chorus from the first one. Working memory is for you to do something with the information to complete a task. Working memory is the Kay. In order to learn something rather than memorising it, using the new information to solve tasks leads to better acquisition of the information.
Having said that, I would recommend:
1. memory palaces work indeed but they lead to short span memory enhancement rather than the ones you need to achieve good grades,
2. Brain exercises do not improve cognition, rather they make you better at the same and similar exercises. To improve cognition, te best you can do is follow the Nadel & Hardt and the embodied cognition (make coherent movements with the contents you are learning). Besides, the incorporation of many senses and imaginery helps a lot. When you talk about attention, attention it self is a dialogue between being attentive and being in a "default mode" or daydreaming state. Using imaginery when you are attentibe makes your information accesible during the default mode to certain extent. Then you strengthen your memory even when inattentive.
3. A new language should be studied as procedural memory actually…
