Biography:
Riccardo Manzotti (phD in Robotics) is professor of philosophy at IULM University (Milan). He holds degrees in both philosophy and computer science. He has been Fulbright Visiting Scholar at MIT (Department of Linguistic and Philosophy), professor of psychology (IULM University), visiting professor of artificial intelligence at the United Arab Emirates University (UAE), at KAIST (South Corea) and has been working at Northwestern University in Chicago and at Trinity College (Dublin). He is the author of more than 100 scientific papers and several volumes. Riccardo Manzotti worked on philosophy of mind, consciousness, creativity, perception, altered states of consciousness, artificial intelligence, artificial vision, goal-directed robotics, and machine consciousness. Recently, he has published Dialogues on Consciousness (OR Books, 2020), The Spread Mind (ORBooks, 2019), La mente allargata (Il Saggiatore, 2019), and Consciousness and Object (John Benjamins, 2018). Manzotti‘s main topic of research has been the problem of consciousness in the physical world and how can a physical system (be it a biological brain or a robot) provide sufficient conditions for consciousness. What does this tell us about ourselves and why do we find it so difficult to solve this problem?
