We were in the middle of a national tour supporting Hunters & Collectors on their farewell shows and getting grief every second day from their manager inquiring as to when the single that was to have given us a renewed profile was going to be released. The subject matter and sunny Beverly Hills 90210 video meant that this song had summer release written all over it, which was a cruel irony given that it came out just as winter was beginning to descend. The reason for the massively delayed release was 4 bars of "Surf City Limits" chorus that the record company wanted inserted into the middle of the song. We strenuously opposed the move – an ultimately futile stance as the bars were inserted anyway – and the release was held off while we bickered. By the time it came out, the song that had once seem to represent all our great hopes for the album felt stale and overcooked and we'd lost all interest in it. We debuted the track in a live performance on Channel V – quite possibly the most out of tune musical rendition by a professional act in the history of television.
