I’m producing an imminent documentary Better Left Unsaid http://betterleftunsaidfilm.com on the topic of “when does the left go too far?” Visit that site if you’d like to contribute to getting the film distributed (early-2021).
Has anyone ever seen Noam laugh or even smile? I feel like slapping him and asking him to lighten up.
The trick is to increase playback speed
For once an interview that's not just asking what has already been answered innumerable times. Not that this was particularly novel, which is difficult when one is already familiar, and likes to delve into the realm of thoughts that Chomsky has waded in most of his life.
But this was enjoyable, and well done in general. Kudos Mr. Jaimungal, and thanks for uploading!
He’s still got it!
I’ve heard of this guy before, never clicked on any videos about him though. I heard someone say, speaking of banks, that corporations and banks are now so big that they get to call the shots in terms of government decisions?, I can’t remember who said that. I’m completely politically illiterate. Although Plato did say that if you don’t take an interest in your government you’re destined to be ruled by fools, sounds impressive, but then do our votes really make a difference?
Chomsky is a treasure.
Put on 1.5x speed and enjoy 😎
When he blinks my self as shaman express your experience in moments has found you I can try to help in person if needed.
This is an absolutely fascinating talk. You are a brilliant man, Noam, it is a supreme joy to have you in this world.
In a way psychadelics encourage self expression/general expression, so language might be a symptom. How many of the great songs were inspired/written because of drug use? If we want to express a SUBJECTIVE experience with another individual how would we convey such things? Language. Noise. Maybe language is an expression or mimic of the "sound" of an experience. Chomsky talks about outcomes being reliant on the nature of that system, but what happens when you fuck with that system? Are the outcomes any less important to your central experience?

How did I know Noam wouldnt know how great leaps could be made from the use of psychedelics, does he speak from ignorance?
<3
You just have to get stoned first and then that theory makes total sense
Da f was that answer about the McKenna Q… Even without psychedelic experience, one cannot deny the creative leaps associated with psychoactive substances in general. The computer, music and ecological revolutions coming out of the 60's are a major testimony of the potential impact of widespread use, even over a ridiculously short time frame. The rigidity of that answer is in disturbing contrast to the vast knowledge of Noam. A fine example of "knowledge" without experience leading to extreme dissonance.
i cant take this hinduphobic professor Chomksy serious anymore
Mr. Chomsky actually adresses the question about Hameroff and Microtubules from 00:06:54 at 00:14:51, these are the structures that also Penrose got interested in.
damn he really does not respect sam harris at all haha. I'm puzzled why he and others on the left characterize criticisms of a religion as racism though, it seems like a fundamental category error. I don't see why he can't just label it Islamophobia at the very least. Of course most Islamic countries do tend to be populated by dark or darker skinned people, but to assume that a critique of their religion is also about racial inferiority just doesn't seem to follow at all.
Click bait title anyone? He only touched on stoned ape for less than a minute and the interviewer missed the opportunity to ask the chomps.. if he had any personal experience with mind altering substances ..
It's incredible how he has deep, we'll informed answers to every single question
wizard chomsky
Can’t believe even Chomsky needs to be told that Islam isn’t a race.
Has Chomsky ever taken psilocybin?
Exasparating arrogance and superiority complex when it comes to Sam Harris. How can you be racist against an ideology ?
His response on the drowning child thought experiment was the worst part of this discussion. He completely missed the point of the question and then contradicted himself.
One of the ways to overcome an irrational behavior is to understand the causal framework on a deeper level, learn to become aware of when that chain of causation is in play, and discover and implement a counterbalance.
What he basically said was, we will never be able to control this particular irrationality. It’s part of being human. We have to just accept it. But here’s a bunch of examples I refuse to accept and we need to take action on.
Chomsky needs to do some shrooms. It's something you need to feel in your body in order to discuss it really.
Noam hasnt experienced psychs, which is essential to understanding them. So his opinion on them is entirely irrelevant. Of course you dont see how it could work otherwise we wouldnt have needed psychs to begin with. What a silly thing to comment on from his position.
Love it keep it up !
#ThankYou Chomsky & interviewer
Noam is still pissed with Sam. 😉
Thanks a lot professor, it was so pleasant to hear it. I hope you to live much more to provide us the benefit of knowledge you have

Unfortunately he just sounds ignorant of what the Stoned Ape group of theories can suggest. "No connection that anyone can point to." That is, he can't imagine mechanistic levers that could be leveraged to accelerate development along some survival/productivity/effectiveness dimension.
How about increased neurogenesis from certain psychedelic compounds? Facilitating hunting/survival through sensory improvement (e.g. edge detection)? Increased problem solving generally? I believe McKenna also talks about altered states and tribal reproduction (orgies—i.e. less internal tribal strife because it isn't clear who is father).
I personally think it was a synergy of multiple factors, ONE of which was the impact of certain plants and psychedelics.
To me it seems that a lot of the people who believe in the Stoned Ape Theory and post about it online are unwilling or perhaps unable to state any of the other theories that are likely. They have a special blind spot for new information that goes contrary to what McKenna thought and what they have decided sounds best to them. Mushrooms are great, I have nothing bad to say about them. I do however think a larger contributing factor for the evolution of human beings was female selection of males and having to compete with the constant threat of large cats and snakes. (see Jordan B Peterson for more on this if interested)
The choosing of the most "fit" in caveman terms and the requirement that survival placed on us are in my humble opinion more critical factors in this discussion than the stoned ape theory which proposes that our ape -like long lost ancestors consumed low doses of shrooms yielding a type of infra-vision that aided them in hunting and peaked sexual interest etc. I genuinely like McKenna and have a few of his books, have listened to MANY of his lectures and in my view hes something like a philosophical poet but not necessarily the most brilliant scientist on the topic of evolution.
Im sure I caught him Wanking at the back of the Howgate back in the 90's
he didnt answer the question about sam harris statement because he knows its true. such a coward.
Neural nets, and cut off tolerences, based on wu wei…. To know thysself is I, or to know a group and relinquish self choice again, is to reclaim the great highway…. common sense of the scary choice … you know, in part you will have multiple lifetimes of servitude to something, then with that knowledge and preparation you are prepared to go all the way out of the kosmos, for all its lessons, are now all natural to you photnic SoulYOUlar YOU…. pax…

Someone give this man some mushrooms before he passes away.
I love Chomsky , I see a lot of opposition to him in Data Science (I did MSc) , but deep down, my MEd Background respected him for his contribution
Thank you for the time and effort to create this video.
Could someone please tell me the name of the scholar whose work chomsky is mentioning at https://youtu.be/c6MU5zQwtT4, purty please?
Awe and awesome. That's Noam Chomsky. Excellent podcast.
So when someone like me says Christianity is in contradiction with human rights, it's neither racist nor ignorant. Yet, when an ex-Muslim advocate like Zara Kay or Maryam Namazie says it about Islam, they're
being both racist and ignorant?
Imagine you emerged from an abusive childhood and lived to tell the tale, except your peers who should be there to support you from your traumatic experience end up blaming you and side with your abuser. That's how it feels like to be an ex-Muslim.
Sort Noam out with some wireless inears FFS!
Great interview. Chomsky is the best.
quite shocking to see such a brilliant mind falling so easily into the propaganda- traps of the pharma- mafia…believing the human body needs vacciens to live on …
