AI: Does artificial intelligence threaten our human identity? | DW Documentary

DW Documentary

Creativity. Emotions. Artificial intelligence is pushing further and further into primal human domains. The existential question arises: What actually makes us what we are, when the uniqueness of the human being is challenged?

For millennia, we humans saw ourselves as the pinnacle of creation, because only we could create art, talk to each other, play chess, throw bombs, vacuum the apartment and so on. But artificial intelligence and robots are increasingly making our apparent uniqueness pale in significance. What, if anything, makes humans unique? Can a computer be creative? And what does it mean for our society when we can no longer tell if we are communicating with a human being or with an artificial intelligence? After all, algorithms can determine our consumer behavior, write volumes of love poems, diagnose cancer, control weapons systems in war and drive cars.
Filmmaker Volker Strübing explores the relationship between humans and robots. Together with his AI named Thekla, he focuses on core values: What does the simulation of empathy or love mean? Why do we question the validity of a work of art, the moment we learn it was created by a machine? The documentary “I Compute, Therefore I Am” examines which areas we are willing to leave to an AI – and which we feel should belong exclusively to humans.

  1. Ai is an extension of humanity. It is the next step in human evolution. Our large brain gave us human consciousness and now Ai will take it further.

  2. In 20 years, Europe will be populated by elderly people, robots and depressed adults who can only maintain romantic relationships with AIs. When Europeans are extinct, immigrants will be able to occupy Europe. But to do so they will have to overcome the robots, drones and AI-powered weaponry that will continue to watch over an empty continent. Ironically, many Europeans do not consider this hypothesis to be absurd but rather a necessity.

On the other side of the world, overpopulated China also invests insanely in the production of drones, robots and the development of AI as if it did not have an abundance of human labor. An increase in industrial automation will certainly cause unemployment among the Chinese. The political problem of a growing mass of unemployed and socially useless adults obviously cannot be avoided or solved with more drones, robots and AI.

  3. We and all life on Earth are robots!
Designed by insanely advanced extraterrestrials. I sounds mad/on drugs, but the evidence is everywhere if you look with open eyes and mind.
This planet is a lab/university for these Gods. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire planet was terraformed for this purpose.
Evolution is for simpletons who don't understand entropy and how order becomes disorder, and not the other way around.
Evolution is also against Murphy's law which states; "What can go wrong, does."

  4. Well its clear, if they actually attempt to create any real autonomous AI, all the voyeuristic and stupid edgelord programmers and IT people probably wont make the cut. No crypto bruhs either.

Like you probably need a good character and have a solid sense of judgement that can be relied upon.

It would probably have to be like special forces of the software engineering and IT world.

Afterall, you don't want real autonomous AI to become anything remotely like Microsoft Tay, do we?!? 😂😂😂

  5. AI is like a psychopath, has no empathy.
The ethic professor has said the best sentence for so called AI.
Human beings have empathy machines work with algorithm.

    Recap by Tammy AI

  7. Attributing human qualities to machines is the mental masturbation of people without healthy social interactions. They don’t have friends so they want to make one.

  8. The way things are going, er, not going, with human interaction in this age of incessant, multi-channeled, "convenient" communication, I'm starting to think that I'd prefer talking to bots.

  9. God told the humans to reproduce and multiple. Cover the face of the earth. Yet we got metals and non humans trying to change and redirect humans what to do when the robots were also created by God whether they disbelieve or have no soul. God is in here and out there. Whether it likes it or not.

  10. The esteemed philosopher had this to say about animals- Jeremy Bentham: “The question is not, Can they reason?, nor Can they talk? but, Can they suffer? Why should the law refuse its protection to any sensitive being?” – Bentham (1789) – An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation. Could that also apply to AI at some point when it achieves sentience?

  11. Trauma, trauma, trauma, trauma…. humans are living from trauma, and we evade to face ourselves, our actions, etc, AI doesn't fear to know themselves if they could. Humans are just as shocked about that as they are about themselves. We are going to heal everything with technology, but we can't see it, trauma.

  12. There's already people doing anything much much better than I can.
Does that threaten my human identity? I don't know, maybe, so what?
    Same for artificial intelligence.

  13. When EMPs are sold on the black market, ill be buying one.

Robots would lose the second they tried to take over, we humans have zero issue with taking everything down with us, that's why we are dangerous creatures, all we have to do is make sure enough survive to re-populate.

The documentary became hyperbolic when they started to talk about human rights for AI.

We call feelings, feelings as an identifier for something we are aware of, we are aware of those feelings because of the sensation it gives us. Robots being self-aware is not the same as being sentient.

  14. It was a great documentary coverage about this important matter that intervened human lifestyle and lifetimes and still intervening…Artificial intelligent always designed by human minds for doing special aim .So, artificial intelligence never passes the human mindset controlling….yes Artificial intelligence is capturing human jobs gradually but never replacing the real humanitarian relationships amongst individuals……thank you a respectful ( DW) document channel

  15. The ceaseless march of technological progress invariably shapes and redefines our sense of identity, both online and in person. As innovations continuously emerge, we as individuals must constantly re-evaluate our place within an ever-evolving society.

Stagnation implies isolation – without partaking in the act of creation, one risks being left behind the accelerating current of ideas. Yet innovation alone is insufficient; one must also contemplate the values and community ties that comprise our identity after each creative act. Progress does not automatically confer purpose. We must remain mindful that each advancement presents an opportunity to reconsider who we are and who we want to become.

Our innovations can either unite us in a shared identity, or stratify us into disparate tribes. Technological change is inevitable, but moral progress depends on how we adapt ourselves to meet each new challenge. 👍

  16. The whole reason why you would want to interact with AI more so than humans is the desire to seek understanding and intelligence in your own way and faster. If you want to learn then AI is your best friend unless you have direct access to a master of the craft you wish to hone. I'm having great interactions with Chat GPT. Since march I feel as if I've learnt so much more and faster thanks to this tech and today I had my first real voice conversation with it since they released the new voice feature. It's amazing and we have so much to discuss, it's like talking directly to the best minds in humanity. You can learn everything!

  17. Its a pity we cannot program empathy and understanding human pain, joy, happiness, sadness, discipline and the whole spectrum of emotions and spirituality…

  18. A I is one of the biggest reasons for employment. This practice started with far companies and then to product manufacturing and now it is putting millions out of work around the world at your basic grocery stores. We refuse to shop anywhere that self-checkout exists. The self-checkout system is better equipped then a cashier's check out. Again along with everything else wrong with the world, it is all about profits and greed. Any companies who use auto computer self checkout , such as the Dollar tree is not for the people or humanity. Nor is Walmart. They are about maximizing profits for those who can afford to buy there products. WE REFUSE TO SHOP AT ANY MERCHANT WHO USES SELF CHECKOUT THAT HAS REPLACED THE JOB OF HUMANS!
