<div class="comment-content"> <p>You know I was thinking about how people go back and forth between "This AI is just programming" and others saying "It's alive and has rights". Thing is, how do we define what is alive and if something has consciousness or not? And I realized, people have been tackling those questions for thousands of years about ourselves. Maybe there is no definitive answer. Where is the line between yes and no? Can something be semi-alive? Also, what is to say our definition of these terms as absolute? For all we know, a more advanced alien species could consider us simply as organic AI. Or humans could be AI running on some universe computer. We wouldn't know any different. And what's the difference between teaching a baby something and programming a robot/android? In a way we program humans, just not to the same level since we're organic. One thing I'm absolutely certain though is that these things are going to be discussed more and more as AI advances. And we may have to decide "Is this 'thing' alive enough or not?". Maybe we'll abandon it eventually because we realize there is no real answer and it'll become too dangerous for humanity.
