So what happens if you throw something into a neutron star … you will get the information back – hahah …
54:47 Lex proves why the imperial system is superior.
17:19 approximation dawned on me during my graduate year
A single photon cannot run around a black hole once AND twice, only once OR twice. So I don't understand that part.
String Theory has absolutely been ruled out, because you cant have your working model of physics be “oh it was just in a dimension that we didnt observe this time” Its untestable. And in the 4+ decades its been since it was taken seriously they have not brought fourth anything to test. Super Symmetry is the much more promising for a unifying model.
Stop calling the gravity a force! – it is influence caused by the curvature of the space-time continuum.
I have one question – how comes that we call the brightest light sources in the universe like the quasars – black holes?
4:42. Not true. Bad news…11.2 km/sec only lets you (ballistically) escape earths gravity. to escape to another GALAXY, you must reach the galactic escape velocity of 550 km/sec.
Quantum gravity may not be what you think. The quantum effect it has on mass is relative to the exchanged charge to mass conversion. This field would then interact masses weakened field and overcomes its force and change of velocity of its potential axial positioning. A greater magnetic field realigns superpositions within matter.
I am like a falling star who has finally found her place next to another in a lovely constellation, where we will sparkle in the heavens forever.
Best intro to your podcast ever. Like WTF, I wanna hear more..
the least amount of time was spent on the time subject lol
Wonderful episode Lex. Andy's laugh and his palpable sense of joy and enthusiasm, are all so infectious and inspiring. What a lovely, brilliant, and humble human being. The hall of mirrors analogy in the photon rings section was pure genius. 🖤
This all seems tangible in conversation until you start asking…where does mass comes from and why? The psychology of "trust"; does this parallel the theological expertise of a preacher? Without "artists", none of this would be palatable. Books with pictures, diagrams, art…sometimes the mind can get carried away with the idea of REAL…when your context of proof in conversation is impossible…like recounting historical events.
1:50:12 AS “A black hole is a mirror… if light, a photon, … goes straight into the black hole, [it] just falls in [and] you never see it again. But if it just misses the black hole, it’ll swing around [and] you actually see an infinite number of copies of yourself.” Andrew Strominger, except for particles with s-type orbitals relative to the black hole, all matter has some angular momentum. Doesn’t that imply the existence of a “fermion ring” barrier to infalling matter? Such an orbital barrier might be relevant to Yvette Cendes’ recent findings of many examples of years-delayed re-emergence of star tidal signal.
How can this guy, with a straight face, tell us that we know what light is. That’s ridiculous, they have no clue
There are no black holes
dirac medal for string theory, breakthrough prize, this is a brilliant, humble and peaceful person, kids should look up to this guy instead of rich athletes
It's hard to believe the singularity of black holes.
His first comments were flawed
String theory is a fruitless.
"light is that stuff that disappears when the lights go off" – this is some Forrest Gump level of wisdom 🙂
This guy talking half an hour about light and never mentioned the word „photon“
