The 11th video in Dr. Richard Brown’s philosophy of mind course. In this video we briefly discuss the history of computation focusing on the development of Turing’s notion of computation. We then discuss the Church-Turing hypothesis and its application to the computational theory of mind and artificial intelligence. We then turn to a discussion of Goedel style objections and Turing’s response. Afterwards we discuss the Turing Test and John Searle’s objection to it from his 1980 paper ‘Minds, Brains, and Programs’
