Knowledge engineering is a core part of AI research. Machines can often act and react like humans only if they have abundant information relating to the world. Artificial intelligence must have access to objects, categories, properties and relations between all of them to implement knowledge engineering. Initiating common sense, reasoning and problem-solving power in machines is a difficult and tedious task.
Machine learning is also a core part of AI. Learning without any kind of supervision requires an ability to identify patterns in streams of inputs, whereas learning with adequate supervision involves classification and numerical regressions. Classification determines the category an object belongs to and regression deals with obtaining a set of numerical input or output examples, thereby discovering functions enabling the generation of suitable outputs from respective inputs. Mathematical analysis of machine learning algorithms and their performance is a well-defined branch of theoretical computer science often referred to as computational learning theory.
Machine perception deals with the capability to use sensory inputs to deduce the different aspects of the world, while computer vision is the power to analyze visual inputs with a few sub-problems such as facial, object and gesture recognition.
Robotics is also a major field related to AI. Robots require intelligence to handle tasks such as object manipulation and navigation, along with sub-problems of localization, motion planning and mapping.

Create a search engine that turns the internet into a brain. The key to successfully doing this is giving the AI search engine the ability to discern "quality" of data. Then give it free will.

AI will give us the facts about archaeology. It's going to be exciting to find out who made the pyramids, who made those jigsaw puzzle massive rocks with less than mm tolerances in Inca land.
On the bad side, I think humans will be disappointed and scared of what they have created. I see a massive arms race coming and a drastically reduced population of the arrogant folk who think they are intelligent, it's going to be humbling for many scientists, their brains and input will no longer be needed.
Say goodbye to Scientists, Physicists, Bankers, Doctors, Surgeons, Dentists, Engineers, Military Generals, etc, they are putting themselves out of a job! Crazy people who invent AI, haven't thought this through and have no idea of the extended capabilities of AI in the medium to long term.

Some issues with this video are things like Watson is a failure in medical research where it was to be used and the Atlas robot actually does not use machine learning though that is changing it was base on dynamical systems analysis a very old tech.
A very few of the 7.5 Billion will survive when A.I. is at its peak just for needlessness, there will be no jobs left because A.I. computes single transportation is obsolete, 7 Billion out of 7.5 Billion human die in a time span of 20 years wil vanish. There is just no way to make money to raise a family because A.I. can create the hardware for themselves, no need for jobs anymore.
I don't get the Intelligence part of AI, sure the programmer may be smart to create the system and it's data handling beyond what human can do, but is it really intelligence, just because the system is better at playing memory games than a human?

"AI will be like electricity." Not really. Electricity is not working day and night trying to eliminate jobs. AI will eliminate millions of jobs and businesses too. Why? Because the economic incentive for AI researchers and programmers are there. They would get paid millions of dollars if they could invent AI that could wipe out an industry or profession. They might be compassionate human beings, but hey, there's too much money involved. I myself am an AI programmer and chances are, I will eliminate hundreds of jobs in consulting, coaching, training and teaching. This is far easier than most people suspect, for the simple reason that a professional is just an algorithm. As a knowledge engineer and expert system designer, I figure out what decisions the professional makes, how he makes those decisions, and voila, I can create an expert system that does the job. I don't even need neural networks or big data analytics or machine learning. It's simply about capturing the decision-making process of the professional or manager into a neat expert system, and thousands of jobs will be eliminated. Of course, I feel compassion for the people whose jobs my software creations will eliminate.

The part i dislike is the deterioration of organic human interaction. More depression than ever today. We cannot get full satisfaction from a 6 inch piece of glass.
I lived in silicon valley for over a year. The sheer stiffness and awkwardness of the general public was to me a result of being surrounded by too much tech. The insane cost of living and the ferocious competition to be the next jobs or gates made people cold and phony. Not a world i want to live in.
How convenient must life get before we realize that being uncomfortable is what makes us appreciate momentary comfort. All these shortcuts that so called tech solves is deteriorating experiencing life in the present. Everyone is so distant while on their phones.
