A look at some of 2019’s interesting and unusual music releases on physical formats. A physical release might not be necessary – but it’s often being used as a way to promote music to a wider audience.

******READ THIS******** >>>>> Apparently SPLIT ENZ and STYX (amongst others) have released laser etched vinyl records in the past. Which is nice, but Richard’s disc will always be the ”first one that I’ve seen” Links to things shown in the video are below EXPAND THIS BOX …

The cases are the smallest issue, you could simply 3d-print new ones. The challenge is the medium (tape and optomagnetic disks).
Guardians of the Galaxy certainly had its part to play in the cassette boom.
1979-80.EPIC Records "Nu Disk" series.
I am remember, some amazing marketing products with 3D discs for turntables, Thank you to remind us that.
it also look like music cassette tape double in 2020 compared to 2019 😀
Split Enz True Colours.
I enjyoju my old cassettes…. I can't remember the stereo shelf that my friend had, maybe A Sony, but It had many options of equalization. I came upon my old tape I recorded with this system back in 1996. Sounded very crisp and loud, like mp3… and it was on tape! I notice cus the other music I recorded from the radio and I decided to record over it with his system. TAPE just needs a good system to record from! I like Mini disk. I may get in to that.
Lately I've been thinking about starting to collect Cassette Tapes of music that I like…👌🏼💯✔ But was wondering what would be the best place to buy them at besides eBay…🤔❓ And can you buy new copies of older releases anywhere…❓❓❓
3:03 seeing PJ Harvey’s cassette feels so fine
simplynailogical would freak out if she were given that first package of discs
sees OasisI SAID MAYBEEEEEEEYou can also use off the shelf tape (ie. Maxell UR90) and unscrew the shell and take out the plastic sheets that are branded underneath
George Ezra's staying at tamara's is on cassette and can be bought from Amazon UK at the moment with free prime delivery
That one record has a duel purpose it will help if you when your car breaks down.
Mat – You should be able to unplug the record player with the bright one running on it and it should keep playing… Anything that bright has its own power source built in 🤣
those sparkly suckers bring me right back to POGs
Wow! Cool.
If you put the LP cover of the 1978 Queen LP Jazz the center image floats like 3D. Worth seeing.
There's something bittersweet about the cannibalizing old 8-tracks to record new 8-track albums…
my local goodwill has 1,000's of 8tracks for sale by the pound! hrm, maybe I should invest in 8tracks?
Matt where did you get the Jean Michel Jarre minidisc at 7:23?!
Whoever makes a Tefifon release will win Audities.
I read on digital red button teletext that almost died itself a few months ago that cassette is well and trually alive again now with Lady Gaga and other modern artists taking up the format.
My Dad has Doctor Who and Hot Stuff in the same red pink colour.
Is that a hidden image of Richard on the cover at 0:47
Works of art. I still love physical.
Are those on Jack White's TMR Label or what.
Stop making me want mindiscs! I'd never even heard of this format before your channel, as I live in the US. But they seem soooo cool!
But seriously, those shiny records, I really want one.
There was a 1980s New Zealand band called SPLIT ENZ that made a vinyl record album called TRUE CLOURS that did that broken holographic thing. Relatively common record and I’ve seen it multiple times at different record shows and swap meets. But it wasn’t towards way later I realized they all had the holographic and now have it as part of my novelty record collection
I just received a new copy of A Cosmic Gift's A Journey to the Purple Planet from a dealer in Hong Kong. The scratch hologram and the splash colour vinyl is very interesting as is the music. I was surprised that I could still obtain it.
Band cds how does it all work. U buy them and they send u one that has your favorite band just asking please message me back thanks.
I love 8 track. They sond nice in my Weltron spaceball
There's a guy on Instagram who made the "cool mix" or whatever from guardians of the galaxy.
I release my stuff on cassette (no fancy artwork gimmicks for the 'collectors-not-listeners' on purpose). Never went over to pooters. Have always used and love cassette. A friend joked that I should do an 8-track…but Mark "Step-daddy's money and connections = career" Ronson actually did it, lolz. Oh, and my "download code" website link takes people to an eBay cassette deck page, roflz.
The Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants mini disc looks awesome.
Hi Tech Moan. I was watching an 8 Bit Guy video and made a comment which I thought I would post to you as well. I hope you find it interesting, and really hope you know something about it. Here is the copy & paste of the message:
Hi 8 Bit Guy, thanks for the great vid. I was holding my breath right up until the end as I was hoping you would have an example of something I have only seen once. Specifically the 'Glass CD'. I'm afraid I don't know its real name. I saw it on a YT video a few years ago, and the presentation was to demonstrate the 'Glass CD' to an audience of, presumably, audiophiles. A recording was played on a normal CD for reference, then the glass cd was played. From the audience reaction there was a significant and very much enjoyed improvement in sound quality. From memory it had the 'warmth' people listen for in vinyl, but with the clarity CD offers. Again, from memory, it was just a normal CD, but instead of plastic, it was made from glass. I think it was played in a normal cd player. The guy doing the demonstration stated the there were only a couple of discs in existence at the time of the recording, and he was especially careful in the handling of the disc. I have been itching to see the video again, but I couldn't remember the name of it and my search since the one time I saw the video has been fruitless. Have you ever heard about this disc? I don't even know if it actually had a real name, nor do I know if it was just made as a demonstration, or if there was a plan to move it into production. Perhaps you have some knowledge about this? If not, maybe you would like to look into it for us. I will copy & paste this message over to Tech Moan and see if they have any information. It really did seem very exciting, but sadly I was just listening with my computer speakers so I couldn't hear how good it was myself. If it is as good as they seemed to think it would be a shame if it never reaches consumers. Simply being a glass cd one would imagine it would be fairly inexpensive to produce. It may be more fragile than a standard cd, but even that could be overcome by using hardened glass. Thank you for reading, I hope there is something interesting for you all here, and if anybody does have some more info please let me know. Best wishes, Lee
Minidisc is such a cool format. If you're looking for some new music being released on the format, there are a good amount of vaporwave albums that get released on minidisc
93 bucks for three mediums… I'll pass.
It's more than 200k.. Thats just how many were sold.
Did anyone else think Richie Hawtin?
anders jensen should be the one to get the next dcc
Hermoso !!! El formato físico sea cual sea siempre será apreciado y amado por los que disfrutamos de la música !!!
10:10 I'm pretty sure it's some guy who has an old injection molding machine in his garage
11:02 sonic 1 green hill zone??
I remember how easy it was to cut out unwanted sound and space…loved minidisc..
Seems like the most dead format now is the Music Video VHS as everything else lives again now.
I’ve been collecting 8traks lately don’t have a way to play em nor have I ever had but I know they’re gonna be trashed till someone nerdy enough like me feels bad for them
Yeah I'm part of this group. I buy vinyl of new releases on Amazon, so I get the record at home and the download on my phone.
