In this episode, I am using “CrAIyon” AI prompt to generate some monkey head concepts which then I select and use as a reference for sculptoing the actual 3D Monkey Head model.
In this demonstration, I am using webapp Smoothie3D for quick 3D doodle to get the starting 3D mesh shapes.
But in general, you can also use Blender and basic 3D primitives to create the basic mesh and do a 2D UV projection and texture of the reference.
Once you have the base mesh you can continue reshaping and sculpting the area that makes a 3D Monkey Head. Use real monkey photo to understand the anatomy of monkey head a little better.
From Blender’s Suzanne Monkey Head, we know what makes a stylized monkey head:
1. Eyebrows
2. Mouth
3. Big Round Ears
4. Strong Jaw
In this video, the tricky part is probably the texture baking from one mesh to another mesh, which has tweaked UV and Mesh Topology. However, if you understand “Baking” technique, it will be very useful.
Hopefully you found some creative inspiration and continue practicing your 3D modeling and sculpting with the help and reference of AI like CRAIYON or DallE2 or Midjourney.
Enjoy!
