The Royal Institution
David Attenborough. Carl Sagan. Richard Dawkins. Michael Faraday. Alice Roberts. These are only a few of the many notable scientists who have given the Christmas Lectures.
You can watch many of the past series at: http://www.rigb.org/christmas-lectures/watch
But five whole series and a single David Attenborough episode are missing. We need your help to try to find them.

Now that RI has sunk to the level of TED and given a platform to frauds and snake oil in a desperate attempt to find content – why worry about old lectures on legitimate science?
Piracy laughs in disguise..!
Do you know where you last had them? That's always a good place to start.
but everyone will have complied with the bbc's 28 day law and wiped or overwritten them….
maybe this is a sting operation…..
What a shameful admission.
Intellectual legends
Greatest scientific minds in the country, have you thought of searching on YouTube? At least one one of the "missing" Eric Laithwaite lectures is on there.

FINALLY YOU REALIZE HOW IT IS. Either let the tapes languish in your archives or put them up online. Glad you finally did this.
I checked the cupboard…
They weren't there…
Technically there's no less that a 1 in 10^200 chance of them being there when I check so if you guys just help me out with the problem of mortality and starlifting I'm sure I can find them for you.
Great Scott! I'll find them for you. Just let me warm up the ol' DeLorean.
Uhh… It's the BBC… They own a freakin' TARDIS !
Without a reward: No
With a reward: Absolutely
what a jolly person
i will keep that in mind
Admitting some weakness and asking for help for the sake of something noble is the sign of power that only the strongest have. I respect your attempt, whatever the mockers may say, and wish you quick success.
Good luck
I searched in my CDs and computers, didn’t find any. But I hope you can find them all soon!
Well, I wish you the very best of luck, RI, in your quest to find copies of the requested material.
However, I'm afraid you are likely to be very disappointed. From what I've quickly seen, for most of the time period in which you are interested in people wouldn't have had domestic video recorders. They just simply didn't exist. The only video recorders which did exist would have been located in broadcasting establishments; virtually nobody would have had such a recorder at home.
There is always a chance, of course, that someone like, for example, a TV engineer might have liked a particular recording and taken it home with him. But this wouldn't have happened very often, I fear.
I bet that if the BBC made all programs available online as soon as it's aired and scrapped the copyright laws – these would appear.
Offering a cash reward would spark some people to look around.
Yeah man got 'em, ow much deh wurf blud?

Have you tried contacting GRAMMAR schools directly? As I believe it was common practice in late 60's early 70's for them to record/obtain a recording of them.
Ok, I will ask my parents, grandparents and everyone who is left in my family if they have any. Oh, wait, I can't. THEY ARE ALL DEAD! Thanks for the reminder.
If we could travel faster than the speed of light then we could travel far enough out into space with a massive receiver and just wait for those previously broadcast Christmas lectures to arrive? If I do this, is there a reward?
