WOW thank you! I'm just planning for Day 3 – This assisted so much as we have yet to cover this in training but have been asked to provide CCQ's in my lesson – I am forever in your debt, and more so when I watch the remainder of your videos! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! ^-^
You're really welcome! Good luck with the rest of your course, too….
Is "He didn't know if he was coming or going" not an idiom? If so, shouldn't you mention it?
Hi Serge – Thanks for your question. This is an idiom, and you could tell learners that but it may mean that you have to teach the word 'idiom'… I think I might tell learners that it was a fixed phrase. The important thing here is that it doesn't have a literal meaning. Best, Jo
Wow by far the best English explanation on youtube, you are the best trainer. I am on my second week of the celta course, and only now I understand the use of concept questions . Thank you! It would be nice if you could do more videos, ie how to do a good lesson plan, phonemic language, how to explain the grammar on the lesson plan. which I strugle with it. Fantastic explanation!!! More videos please ….
Chris 🙂
Hi Chris – Thank you so much! I am slowly growing my collection of videos – I put out a new one each month. You can access them here on youtube or on my website 'elt-training'. There is one on the phonemic chart and on language analysis – I'll put 'lesson planning' on my to-do list! Good luck with the rest of your course! Jo
Thank you sooo much for taking the time to reply. You are so professional. I am going through your tutorials and again very useful context in them. A tutorial about lesson planning would be very useful if you can, I usually struggle with filling in all the bits on the lesson people.. anyway I will keep checking your videos. Keep up your amaaazing work!!! You should have more viwers. 🙂
Chris
It's on my 'to do' list – I'll try and do it for next month… 🙂 If you'd like a reminder when each new video comes out, just register at elt-training.
Totally Excellent. If I can be half the teacher you are I will be very happy..I will visit here often..Thank you..
Ahh thanks! Glad to have been of some help:)
You're welcome! CCQs are a bit of an odd way of thinking about things at first but with practice they become second nature – don't worry – it'll come!
Hello Jo….Thank you for putting these tips online. They are very helpful. I'm starting the CELTA course tomorrow, and I'm really feeling quite nervous about it. I already have some teaching experience, but it doesn't seem to help me when I look through all of the things I need to learn on the CELTA. Your videos help me a lot, allow me to create various practice questions, and get into a good way of thinking. So once again, thank you!
Part 1 of three about lesson planning is up on the website now (elt-training) (and on YouTube) – part 2 and 3 to follow next month! Jo
Hi Ian – glad that they have been of some help – good luck with your CELTA course 🙂 Jo
Thank you.
Great effort! However, you might want to reference/thank Graham Workman from whom you took all your examples and method.
Hi there -I certainly would have been happy to do so if I'd known they were his examples – I think he wouldn't be claiming credit for the method, which is very standard. The examples were from my trainer trainers – I guess good ideas get passed around 🙂
Nice video! I'm on the poor mans Celta LOL! Man its tough! Thanks!
boorrrrinnnggggg
Thank you very much for this video! I've just finished a TESOL course. I'd like to attend CELTA. But I have to work on my fluency before doing it. I'm trying to keep in touch with all the knowledge presented during my TESOL course. Videos like this one are so useful and edifying!
Perfect
ur videos are more than good,
not always easy to do good CCQs, especially for grammar 🙁 im doing celta right now 🙂
Extremely helpful!
Many thanks!
Hi there! This is a really well made and simple video! So easy to understand and follow, all the bases covered, and well put together!
So very helpful!!!! thanks!
Can you please do videos for the DELTA course also … these are really helpful!

Thank yo very much
You are a fantastic trainer! Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge! I've accidentally come across your channel and can't stop watching )) Wisihing you best of luck and a lot of thankful and successful learners!
Fantastic. Finally, CCQs broken down easily.
This is very useful! One of those several things I usually have troubles with. Wow. Thank you 🙂
Thank you…. This is why I failed my CELTA 3 years ago. No one told me to use a dictionary in that way! Oh well… I know now!
Good and acceptable explanation. May I ask you? What ways used to concept check? Give explanation to me, please.
wonderful video. It's the first time I had learnt how to give CCQ. So clearly.
Very interesting video. I have learnt a lot. The one thing that caught my attention in this video is what I have learnt about grading the vocabulary below the target language. Thank you
Excellent!
I love your videos
Your so professional
This Channel is an ELT heaven 🙂 I am so lucky to be here 🙂 You are a wonderful trainer
Disliked video because 45 second ad for a channel with 12k is absolutely ridiculous
I'm trying to do a pre-teach for while and when and I'm really struggling. How do I make CCQs for this and present the concept on a presentation?
The have the best soothing voice and all your videos are amazing. Thank you
Why would you confuse your students more.. Discovery-based approach is not really helpful in vocabulary instruction. Explain explicitly the words in a brief way, and focus more on making your students use those words (Fill in gaps, or make sentences). It's all about use. That's how we remember words.
Thank you!!
how can we do a thorough analysis of the phonology of vocabulary words like "furious" and "annoyed"? I would appreciate your feedback and comments
This is a great video. The most clear and easy to understand CELTA video I have seen. Quite helpful.
Wow!!! I am busy with my Tefl assignment & was struggling with concept questions. Tonight, I will be redoing a whole lot of work but now I am sure of what I am doing. Thank you.
This was brilliant… Thanks a ton !
