Check it off the list, with Spot & Orbit | Boston Dynamics

Boston Dynamics

What if you could detect, diagnose, and act—before issues even arise? With Spot and Orbit, you can.

Orbit provides a real-time digital record of your facility—capturing everything from hot motors and hidden air leaks to compliance and regulatory risks. That means your team can see what’s happening, understand why, and predict when it might happen again.

From preventive maintenance to overall site health, this is the smarter way to run your operations.

  1. I don't believe y'all are actually doing anything over there but making YouTube videos. You've teamed up with the Henson company and all your robots are just puppets
    Edit I should've said Muppets

  2. Orbit notification: unfolded laundry
Orbit notification: milk stain on floor
    Orbit notification: guy in boxers

Maybe Spot is what depressed people need to get things done.

  4. Ok I get it, and it looks kinda cool, but how is this any better than having stationary cameras and mics around the place??

  5. We hate being spied on at work, just throwing that out there
And watching management drop 'fuck you' money on a robot after telling us times are too hard for a measly 2% pay rise is just another kick in the teeth
Employee turnover increases, site expertise decreases, but since management ignore those metrics they pat themselves on the back anyway and give themselves another bonus

  6. It truly sucks that you guys turned this interesting and silly progress showcase channel into a soulless marketing page. Boston Dynamics used to be a cool place I wanted to work for, and now it's more corporate slop

  7. Finally a professional and serious video and not a buffered that makes the robotics of toys seem.
This is the road, not the usual stupid approach. Be serious like good you are at work.

  8. I hope to someday be able to get a Spot robot or the B2 robot. Seems like there are a bunch of robot companies these days so hopefully you really can teach an old dog new tricks.

  9. I feel like this could be a decent way to deploy in my town, where there are often main breaks during the summer. Sending one of these out to inspect potential main breaks without having to send a manned crew out to investigate could at least put eyes on the severity, but getting the bot there quick enough from miles away could be an obstacle. Maybe Waymo type vehicles designed just for these, could be used..

  10. Fuck. Now the engineers will be able to 'walk' the floor and tell us peons to go mop up the leak from the roof, while bitching about the doors being open when we’re out back smoking. Now we can’t even get back into the building because they shut the damn door on us.

  11. i feel like AI on cameras and sensors across the entire facility is less expensive than a moving agent checking stuff inside the facility
i mean, if you ask the AI "Is the freezer door closed?", it could just look into the nearest camera to that door, and check if it's closed, easy, no need for a robot
i mean, you could get a robot to do it, but it''s gonna take a few more weeks / months till robots can do that automatically without a human looking over them

  12. This is the future of Spot? To act like a supervisor and make work more difficult for employees by breathing down their necks?
I thought they were trying to spin it as a crisis actor that could save people, not just do an easily payable job that any human could do.

  13. This is what Boston Dynamics have that the others don't. There are cheaper ways to do this, but you don't get all the nice features in one package.
