Philosophy Overdose
An interesting interview with Daniel Dennett from a few years back that I quite like. He discusses various philosophical issues regarding mind and meaning. Some of the topics discussed include consciousness, science, materialism, computation, meaning/purpose in biology, emergence & reductionism, the intentional stance, evolution, philosophical zombies, the self, and free will. This comes from an interview with Robert Pollie a few years back from a podcast called the 7th Avenue Project. For more information, go to www.7thavenueproject.com.

Thanks for this.
Thanks for rebuilding this great channel
Seems like a reformulation of Aristotles causes
It's becoming clear that with all the brain and consciousness theories out there, the proof will be in the pudding. By this I mean, can any particular theory be used to create a human adult level conscious machine. My bet is on the late Gerald Edelman's Extended Theory of Neuronal Group Selection. The lead group in robotics based on this theory is the Neurorobotics Lab at UC at Irvine. Dr. Edelman distinguished between primary consciousness, which came first in evolution, and that humans share with other conscious animals, and higher order consciousness, which came to only humans with the acquisition of language. A machine with primary consciousness will probably have to come first.
How rare is it that you catch yourself smiling because what you're hearing is so mind blowingly brilliant?
Fabulous discussion. Thanks for this!
Have bought a nice copy of 'Darwin's Dangerous Idea'. But am reading Darwin's 'Origin of Species' first after seeing the film. When do you create infinite time? And where do you begin infinite distance?
Why can I not find this on spotify?
