It’s not surprising that the profound weirdness of the quantum world has inspired some outlandish explanations – nor that these have strayed into the realm of what we might call mysticism. One particularly pervasive notion is the idea that consciousness can directly influence quantum systems – and so influence reality. Today we’re going to see where this idea comes from, and whether quantum theory really supports it.

The behavior of the quantum world is beyond weird. Objects being in multiple places at once, communicating faster than light, or simultaneously experiencing multiple entire timelines … that then talk to each other. The rules governing the tiny quantum world of atoms and photons seem alien. And yet we have a set of rules that give us incredible power in predicting the behavior of quantum system – rules encapsulated in the mathematics of quantum mechanics. Despite its stunning success, we’re now nearly a century past the foundation of quantum mechanics and physicists are still debating how to interpret its equations and the weirdness they represent.

Omg how idiot you guys can be including the guy on the video to not to understand mind is not physical but interacts with physical reality, so delusional people you are almost psychotic.
I feel like I missed the definition of consciousness somewhere …
What is consciousness anyway?
My viewpoint is that we are all parts of the universe being expressed in complex patterns. My idea is that conciousness is the universe experiencing itself.
Your channel is incredible, thank you for the amazing content.
Today we have experiments like the rice experiment and the water crystal experiment that was conducted by Dr. Emoto for 40 years… His conclusions prove that matter is indeed effected by our thoughts and feeling emotions… Many other studies have also been done in this area and it all points to the same factual conclusion. On a deeper level There is only one consciousness expressing itself through many different individual forms, and experiencing many different perspectives as a result.
I've just colapsed this wave function, and I'd like to thank you all for your participation in my reality!!
Am I just stupid?
Or is there anyone else who’s still confused?
How is this info applied to multiple worlds interpretations??🤔
Love you
Does the Measurement Problem appear in Feynman's path integral formulation? If the answer is yes, how does it appear there? (since, to my understanding, there is no wave-function in this formulation) And if the answer is no, what does this tell us about the Measurement Problem? (since all formulations of QM suppose to be equivalent)
This video didn't really offer any solid refutations of the quantum consciousness hypothesis.
In a nutshell it's just:
"This stuff is pushed by a lot of mystical folks who didn't study physics".
Citation needed. And not an argument in any case.
"The people who founded the theory also questioned it themselves".
Appeal to authority fallacy. Critiquing your own findings and ideas is called being an honest academic.
"Here's an alternative explanation for this phenomena".
Presenting another hypothesis, however equally valid, is not the same thing as disproving the former hypothesis.
We can even go on a quantum leap into the past 🙂
Princhimpia
And thats why you unconsciously observe the experiment…
YES
Lol if only this video came out before I bought a book about consciousness and quantum mechanics
Isn't that the very basis of it… I learned that decades ago… Liar!
To paraphrase RF, "If you think you understand consciousness, you don't". Take my word for it, really, you don't. As for quantum mechanics: "It's a wave – no it's a particle – no, it's a dessert topping!" Put that in your consciousness.
I loved the section criticizing the pseudoscientific presentations of grandiose quantum truth.
what you doing
collapsing maaaad wave functions
wow so good
So u started with the assumption that reality is independent of consciousness. (coz Duh!) N went on to prove it lol. Without any reasonable argument, except insinuating that only stupid ppl or charlatans belive otherwise.
Ur final claim is just ur own prejudice about the matter. Nothing scientific about it
As u urself said, many great scientists entertained the idea. So if u will assert otherwise, u need to give atleast a good argument, apart from duh its common sense!!
Unless there is only 1 consciousness expressing itself as multiple people and thus you and your friend's is the same and thus to avoid breaking reality both get the same result.
yes
This discussion is based on an understanding of quantum mechanics in depth but only a superficial understanding of consciousness. It looks only at the question of whether subjective consciousness at the level of a human brain can collapse a quantum wave function. Those with an awareness and/or experience of objective consciousness understand that at that some higher or deeper level, collective consciousness manifests constructively as wave functions ab initio. Hence, the relationship between consciousness and quantum mechanics might best be understood with a bottom up as opposed to top down perspective and analysis.
Our brains use electrical signals to communicate. Electricity produces magnetic fields. Consciousness and its influence may exist on a larger scale than quantum
Need I mention what might prove you wrong. Search the videos, Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research.
No thoughts consciousness=superposition. Start thinking=collapse of the wave function into you ,me and the universe.
Heisinburg : “JESSE!”
In other words; The hard materialists are trying to hide their backpedaling with misdirection towards the Deepak Chopra strawman!? The quantum eraser experiment would've been a better example to consider for the purpose of this topic.
Why is it assumed that consciousness plays a role in the collapse of the wave function. Maybe we simply don’t understand how it collapses if that is even the correct explanation for this phenomenon. What if there is no collapse of the wave function but there is something else going on which leads to the same results. Also I don’t understand how the measurement problem somehow leads to concluding it must have happened through consciousness. It assumes we understand how this electron behaves on a quantum level just by drawing conclusions from what we observe. Reality could be different and more complex than the theory we have now. Maybe I am just not smart enough to understand this but to me it sounds like they jump to conclusions too soon.
Anouncer: It's a dead heat! They're checking the electron microscope. And the winner is… Number three in a quantum finish!
Professor Farnsworth: No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it!
Ouch, my eyes and brain!

Do hidden variables?
Axions? Why not philoctes?
Do Copernicus next
Do interpretations of relativity next
Do the interpretations of nuclear theory next
Try sitting and having objects appear from "the ether"…in front of your lap…it astounded me.
Another candidate for dark matter:
"Scientists May Have Found Dark Matter Particles!" By: Anton Petrov.
I think I like it better, it deals with a particle with 6 quarks instead of 3 (that is thought to be dark matter). The particles were made by scientists (and lasted for a split second) and so the particles can maybe exist. It seems to tick a lot of boxes (including the weight) and has been hailed to be a great theory. Can you look into this and talk about it (if you haven't already)?
How do they know the double slit experiment acts like a super position wave function (without being able detect it)?
I watched this stoned.. it was awesome!
