I am from Thunder Bay. two days ago Braiden Jacobs was found dead here after being forced to leave his community to seek grief and trauma counselling, an essential service denied to his and many other reserves in Canada. #CanadasShame
Why is it their bright future should be put on the Government’s shoulder? They all have the opportunities just like anyone else. I am an immigrant too, i had to sacrifice myselft, leave my family to live on my own, go to school while working, usually get home at 12pm everyday, then find a job after graduation. Just because they are First Nations doesn’t mean they should be spoon fed.
People with low IQ’s like First Nations, no matter where you put them, they won’t prosper. They do not have intellectual and creative skills to pull themselves out of the hole.
We’ve now heard that there is racism among some Ontario police departments so I’d be reluctant to send my child away from home as a young teen for highschool, knowing that. Discouraging news
Similar to many Amerindians in the USA
I am one of these Students, I am home for Christmas break but I go back in 12 days.
But I don’t go to Thunder Bay, it’s too chaotic. Most parents don’t want to send their children out to Thunder Bay, but I go to Sioux Lookout.
What makes it worse is that I lost my dad a little over a year ago, I had to leave and deal with the grief on my own. Leaving my little family with the same grief is a lot harder, I worry most for my sister and my mother.
Y’know, I look at my younger nieces and nephews and their friends and hope that they don’t have to go through this. I am from one of the lucky communities that goes up to grade 10, It’s hard leaving home, I hope this changes.
Canada is a failed country.
Although it really is difficult to leave home like that, I think in some aspects it is good to send students out most times. Aside from the tragedies that have occurred in the passed decade I believe it's good to learn about the city, the broader Canadian society, and obtaining an education. Watching this video gives me nostalgia. I have good memories of DFCHS. But I didn't graduate from there. I got my diploma from the internet high school in my community. It's really limiting when you have all your community hours and like 27 out of 30 credits to go to internet high school. There wasn't much course choices I can say. They mainly focus on grades 9-11. But I managed, I compromised. I think this is just supposed to be an opening to the world, cause if you can't manage while you're in high school in the city then college obviously isn't for you. You need to have social skills, know your way around, and most of all focus on why you're there in the first place. It hardens your heart in a good way. It makes it easier when you get closer to your goals every time like that.
We need more native educators…us natives gotta give back to our communities
Im a first nation kid and I was sent from beaver lake to Great Lakes, Illinois It was very very emotional for me that day..
We don't need no education
I love how "white people" are still always saying how much they really care, they tell our stories when we should be the ones speaking!! I can't wait til I'm older and will be able to raise my voice to adults because no one listens to the native kids!!
just saw video sent to me This is a video that reminds me of my years of transision Dennis Franklin high school is where I went @ age 15 16 & 17 it was really hard for me @ that time in my young life to transition from french culture to English culture. That same school back in 1976,77 & 78 was known & called Northwood High School during that time
yes 4 min and 27 seconds to 5 min and 6 seconds my parents are in the video yes I just saw (grandma & grandpa) and they certainly were no strangers to us the time frame is my parents's house & my parents with the main characters on this part of the video. My parents truly cared for these young men/women from Sandy Lake. Sad to announce My Dad did pass away November 6, 2017 @ the age of 82 just to input my dad & mom truly were doing what they could to help in their basic need such as food, shelter they did in their best abilities provide dignity;independence;privacy;preference and last but not least safety. This video is very important to be aware of the truth for First Nations Children. This video was

—teenagers still need parental or adult guidance ,, sending them off is sure to scare them and feels homesick away from their homes ,,, the whites don't send their children if they can keep them close to their homes for guidance and protection ,,, those children should have someone of their mentality with them , someone who can talk to them and encourage them to go through that education for their future , so important ,, ,, they need some kind of culture or family members with them ,, to walk that journey with them until they are ready to 'fly', and become self reliant ,, and return home some day with help for their clans and tribes ,,, so much to learn , so much to do ,, they need encouragements , don't give up young ones ,, be courageous ,, and do what you need to do ,, you need to make sacrifices to get ahead in life ,, that's what the whites do ,,, sacrifices ,, please don't give up ,, remember the eagle ,, he flies solo and higher than the others ,, live and learn,
–booze is the poison of satan ,,, too many people are affected by alcohol ,, the body reacts in a negative way towards alcohol, alcohol is poison to the mind and body ,,,it is an allergy reaction ,, that's why so many get angry or into fights after drinking ,, your mind cannot handle that poison ,, stop drinking ,, be smart ,, and keep away from drugs ,, another poison , that is meant to destroy your mind and life and soul ,, , keep away from devils brews , of any kind ,, even the whites suffer at the hands of alcohol ,, you are not the only ones that suffers from that poison ,,, ,, live and learn from others ,, you never walk alone ,, seek spiritual guidance ,, of God Almighty ,, and Jesus ,, to help you to be strong in yourself ,

I'm going to create a Secular Nation where our native people are put first! We need a Right Wing First Nation Government that does a hell of alot more for our youth than the Elitist AFN or that liar leftie soyboy Trudeau
More pity porn for the white liberals to ooh and aah over.
This story deserves an update now two years later. How much has the government funded education for these children? What has changed? What has not?
It's simply racial discrimination & policies to continue to oppress the first nations people.
So the obvious question, WHY NOT HOME SCHOOL?? Or create tiny houses on campus!! Why is this a difficult decision
It is so important to hear the stories directly from the people affected. I wonder if correspondence/ online courses or home schooling would be a viable option.
I have a question, why do the first nation people have a detectable accent? Even the young kids who i assume grew up speaking english have some kind of accent, do they grow up speaking native dialect?
Oh yeah yeah
