I hate the future
cyberpunk
I wouldn't say that Hong Kong is that multicultural "According to the 2016 by-census, 92% of the Hong Kong population is ethnic Chinese."
And the rest is mostly other East-Asians, only 0.8% Whites.
very ironic to watch this video, today, July 1, 2020
I wonder what the music at 2:24 is
waiting on that hour-long dissection
If you'd make one hour video for every shot of that scene i would watch every single one of those videos
as a hker, your analysis of identity issue facing by the hkers nowadays can't be more accurate
You still working on that “hour long breakdown” of this scene?
5 years later this is still good af
I feel cyberpunk is a horror, of how it explores how terrible this world can become. Terrible but beautiful, but still terrible. The question of what make someone… someone… and the other philosophical questions of what if…
Kusunagi's cocern over keeping her sense of identity reminds me of the buddhist view of the self. That it's largely an illusion. There is no immortal soul with special or unique characteristics that will survive death. As it is maintained more in judeo-christian tradition. In life the concept of one's identity or self is not permanent either but in a state of flux.
Hong Kong is destroyed now, in fight for its new identity. Just like the Major's and the Puppet Master's old identities are destroyed in fight. I wonder what new person will Hong Kong become…
kinda feels like you're reaching. I don't get it but i can appreciate how damn good those scenes looked
It's ingriguing how different cultures bring up different things that stimulate our brain. We might come from different places, however when it comes down to stimulating certain emotions, feelings, uncoscious thoughts, we all have something in common as I am sure, everyone watching those scenes felt a similar feeling/emotion/thought:
It's a place where time doesn't apply to the scene, existing outside of time (2:13), yet, simultaneously these scenes seem to be bound to time. They appear to be locked in that specific moment, never able to escape. They simply "exist" in that very moment, freed and chained by time.
You must have done really well in school 🥃
Good video for introducing people to anime
6:57 cells within cells interlinked?
the film isn't set in space
YES
Loved this one
Wow!
Thank you for doing this video!
I'm a lifelong time fan of the philosophy of Identity and Ghost In the Shell!
Gracias!!!
This analysis is a piece of shit
I liked your talk about the aspect to aspect but you make the mistake to assume it is set in Japan. In the movie there was literally no japanese text what so ever so far as I saw, it was all Chinese so it’s probably not only modeled of Hong Kong but probably actually supposed to be Hong Kong in the future. Also a little to heavy on the post modern deconstruction for my taste, kinda biased but hey, that’s just my opinion.
I watch this video at least once a month for the last few years, somehow it has become more relevant over time.
The aspect to aspect concept can easily be seen in 1917 as well, a ‘goal oriented’ film. Always great to be able to revisit your essays!
What do you use to it cut your image and texts?
3 years later here. Would LOVE to have you dissect every shot of the Hong Kong scene.
Starts to play innocence op. Yes! I'm ready for this!
24 years passed Hong Kong is still a cyberpunk city with huge wealth gap and is still a colony
Love the music.
Everybody is truly nobody. We came from nothingness and to the nothingness we must return.
def disagree but interesting analysis
