Google’s Artificial Intelligence Project AlphaZero beat Stockfish 8 with 28 wins, 72 draws, and zero losses in a 100 game match. AlphaZero uses Monte Carlo Analysis and self-learning AI to improve itself constantly, while playing thousands of games against itself each move. Modern chess engines try to calculate ply as deeply as possible and do not use this method, but AlphaZero’s success demonstrates that this may be the way to go. AlphaZero sacrificed material for extremely deep compensation on numerous occasions, punishing Stockfish for its materialism and incorrect evaluation of the sacrifices.
