Have you ever wondered how the pros can simulate materials, volumes, and light on their miniatures so well? Well, whether they know it or not, the answer is physics! In the intersection between how light behaves on shapes and different materials, we can become the Master Warhammer Painters we were always meant to be!

Apologies for sounding a bit nasally in this one, I was still getting over a cold.

  1. One of the few videos where I've watched someone paint and out loud said, "that's fucking good…" Love your "realistic" approach towards painting bud. I not a big fan of the box-art approach and appreciate more realism involved with these figures. Subscribed

  2. Thank you for the easy to comprehend tutorial. I'm just starting out, but I find it interesting how this applies effectively 2D techniques to a 3D object in realspace. I really liked the chrome piece and helmet reflections. Regarding a Chapter name I believe anything with "Brass" in the title fits better the colours chosen. "Hammer-Forged" sounds cool but brings to my mind firescale and iron. Thank you for sharing and best wishes.

  3. I had a realization similar to this when trying to figure out why skin is 70%+ of the "highlight" tone vs. something like space marine armor is 30%-ish. You took my understanding to a whole new level here. Thank you for filling in these gaps in DIY mini painting education.

  4. When you are doing volumetric highlights consisting of sketchy brush strokes and stippling, what is the paint to water ratio like?

  5. Really nice video, helped me to grasp intellectualy some concepts for my future minis. Thanks for your work man it's appreciated! Really curious about the next lesson on this topic (particularly NMM). Cheers !

  6. Out of all the content on YouTube or elsewhere in regards to painting 40k minis, I have learned the most valuable and advanced information from you, and being a lifelong artist myself, albeit self-taught, these are just fundamental techniques scaled down into this very specific hobby. THANK YOU BROTHER. You are an incredibly skilled human.

  7. Loved these explanations.. Literally figured out the shiny = resolution thing the other day.. the less shiny something is the more blurred the reflection gets.. or the more blurred the objects in the reflection get.. at one end they're just blobs of their main colour, the other you can see the object.

Hadn't gotten round to matt v gloss yet though.

  8. Youtube just recommended your channel to me – absolut S-Tier!
I loved the final result and the style of the video in gerenal.
