Basically the GPT allows for a nearly unlimited amount of partitions, and the limit here will be your operating system. GPT stands for GUID Partition Table. It’s a new standard that’s gradually replacing MBR. It’s associated with UEFI.
On an MBR disk, the partitioning and boot data is stored in one place but works with disks up to 2 TB in size, but it can’t handle disks with more than 2 TB of space. MBR also only supports up to four primary partitions.

Thanks man nice and easy 🙂
Thank you so much for actually showing the whole process. All the other ones skim over it like it's nothing and it pissed me off.
Thanks, this was a big help.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I thought my new disk wasn't working…
You the GOAT!
what is better?
huge help, super quick and easy thank you
You explain how to format but you don't explain the difference/benefits between GPT and MBR for an M.2 which makes me wonder if you even know anything about computers.
Great video. Must have watched five others. Yours was by far better. Thank you for explaining the whole process.
Oh my god thank you. I feel like a dummy, I was convinced it had to do with BIOS settings and I have wasted a couple hours messing around with those. Great video. Thanks so much.
Thanks!
Best video to the point clarified why gbt is used. Awesome!
I had done this before but the video was a nice refresher. Thank you.
I love videos that are clear and to the point.. Thank you so much!
Thanks a lot. I was pulling my hair out. so thanks to you I'm not so bald.
I feel kind of dumb but relieved that this was all I needed to do.. Just got a nvme m.2 and never had installed one before, so when it showed up in the BIOS but not in windows it was driving me mad. Just had to format it… makes sense lol.
I installed my second m.2 ssd and opened partitions and it would give me that first option. My bios nor my windows sees my new m.2. Any ideas?
(GUID Partition Table) and IS NTFS wtf?
got my m.2 ssd up and running, thank you for the info
You are god
Perfect thank you
Thank you so much! I got a ton of flack for wanting to use my M.2 as storage, but I have 2x 1TB M.2 drives. They are both samsung and both identical (the 970 model). I already had one running Windows, and everyone on Tom's Hardware said it was a "waste" to use M.2 as storage, but if I have 2x M.2 drives I don't see it as being a waste, lol. I just didn't want to buy an $800 2TB M.2 lol
I love you. I honestly thought I had a dead drive. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I’m finally free from the clutches of “not enough space”!
You're the man thanks so much
I have a b450m and I put a Crucial mx500 1tb in it. It won't detect it so that first option does not come up when I open disk management. Any idea why this is happening?
Useless for me it doesn't even appear in the disk management.
