Hunger Archetype | Evolution Of Consciousness | Alchemy Of Psyche (7)

HermesHub

Through the evolution of consciousness, the Hunger archetype played a big role, and in this episode of the Alchemy of Psyche series, we’ll explore its vital parts.

Deep down in each of us is a plane of intestinal processes of the alimentary tract. The instinct to eat, also known as hunger is one of our most elementary psychic instincts and the psychology of the belly plays an important part with the primitives and children. The less a person’s ego or consciousness is developed the more his state of mind depends on whether he is satisfied or not, or thirsty or not.

But what does the food exactly mean for the ego-consciousness? How did it affect our brain and evolution? What role did the food play in our mythological stories and psychic life?

Find answers to these and more questions in the video above.

  1. Funny, isn't it, how food can influence our behaviour and our feelings? I remember the part in the 7th Harry Potter book (Deathly Hallows) when Harry, Ron and Hermione didn't have enough food while searching out for Horcruxes, and then all of them were furious, ready to fight with each other and without a hope of winning a war against Voldemort. Yet, as soon as they got food, they would become all friendly again and hopeful.

Yuval Noah Harrari was discussing this matter of our (shall I say addiction?) to tasty and spicy food in his book "Homo deus". He explains it by using the term "greedy gene". Apparently, in the distant past, our ancestors didn't have a chance to get tasty food easily and frequently. When they stumbled upon food which contained a lot of carbohydrates, the first thing they would do was to eat it as fast as possible. At least that hasn't changed until nowadays. 🙂

  2. Loved, the video, but just one critique: If you are quoting a text, please try to put the text in the video because it would be easier to follow. Nothing more.
Hope you guys keep creating great content!
