Their roots are their "neurons", the earth, their "brain matter". They absolutely feel pain, even experiencing the same chemical cascade we do when we are injured. Just as they do in us, the chemicals flood throughout the plants' bodies starting from the site of the injury. If they want to survive, then they absolutely have a biological need to feel pain and it's important to recognize that "plants don't feel pain" is indeed not a proven fact and is certainly not backed by science.
