Ep14 – How can South Korea secure technological competitiveness in AI?
한국 AI 기술경쟁력, 어떻게 확보할 것인가?
Lee Se-dol, a former South Korean professional Go player of 9 dan rank, played a five-game match against the computer program AlphaGo and won one match. He recently held a retirement match with the home-developed artificial intelligence (AI) program HanDol. The three-game match ended with AI’s win, but this match has aroused everyone’s interest in artificial intelligence once again. Currently, the United States, China as well as other countries and companies are devoting their resources into the study of AI technology. Then, where does South Korea stand in AI technology?
On this week’s #KOREA 4.0, we sit down with Lee Soo-young, Professor and director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at KAIST to learn about the present status of South Korea in AI technology and development. In addition, we zero in on the AI national strategy announced by the South Korean government. We also discuss in depth about fostering new talent, deregulation of data usage and other measures needed to secure technological competitiveness.
