I didn’t think someone could sound that boring while just talking
i agree. the second and third languages must be only "skills" not be connected with "mind", otherwise the brain will be divided into several segments losing the ability of thinking. and "the skills" can be replaced by machines now.
I don't agree, after I studied English I didn't started to feel myself like a American or Britain man. Of course I received a huge cultural field in which I could swim to receive more information from different cultures, but that doesn't mean that this information is correct. Language is just a mean to transfer information. No more no less. What you mean in your video is cultural field, but you never can be the same as native speaker. You didn't live the life his generation lived, something that is received by the society. To receive this you should to live there not a pair of years but a life.
Yea, I understand. I’ve read the Shahnameh, a legendary Persian work, and feel proud of my ancestry. Likewise, I’ve read about the Crimean War and the tales that come from that war like the Charge of the Light Brigade and the Thin Red Line. Those fill me with pride as well yet I’m not a Brit.
For love, context, and connection…
This made my tired brain start half sobbing and turning into bread, mans got a nice voice, Im going to bed now.
Beautiful spoken word! ❤
Not until Jesus returns.
I opened my dictionary about 16 times while this 4-minute video, nice👍
So it it worth it?
I understand. It ruined mine too.
whats so bad with realizing that your culture is similar to others and to adapt to so many others at times?
Learning new language lets say 4 you get split into 4,Also you start to see some imperfections onto your own Language
If it only were that simple.
Russian history written by Russians is nothing more than Russian propaganda. It is far better to read Western historians, they are far more objective, although they too engage in Russian propaganda a lot. Ultimately, it's next to impossible to really get history straight.
The Battle of Kulikovo is less significant. A whole lot less significant. It achieved such prominence in retellings of history because the victory was achieved with Moscow, and not other Russian state, at the head. Later Moscow swallowed other states and spread the false vision of entire Russia winning the battle.
Moreover, it was only a battle that they won at Kulikovo in 1380. After Khan Mamai, who led the Golden Horde, was killed, the Horde was united under Tokhtamysh, who in 1382 captured and burned down Moscow, forcing the Kulikovo victor Dmitry to accept Horde's sovereignty.
The Battle of Kulikovo produced a two-year period of self-rule. Is that significant?
The Golden Horde continued to rule until the 1480 Grand Stand on the Urga River.
I am a native Russian speaker.
"After learning a language, if you care enough, part of you becomes a member of the tribe to which the language belongs "
Really? If your ancestry is European, you will NEVER become Chinese. No matter how well you learn to speak Chinese, or learn Chinese culture, or whatever.
Similarly, if you are Jewish, you will never be Russian or Ukrainian or anyone else, even if your ancestors have lived in that place for 450 years.
You might, however, learn the current propaganda of that language's tribe. With all the bigotry that is there. Thus, instead of only one bigotry, you will now have two. Or, at best, exchange one for another.
You might as well learn your own culture.
We will never overcome misunderstandings, h..red and human venom. There will never be peace and prosperity.
Trust me, I am Jewish. I have experienced it on my own skin.
Extremely wise insights. Bless you for sharing them. I have never been able to learn another language no matter how hard I tried when I spent time in Zimbabwe or Uganda. But I richly know the pain you describe from my intercultural studies and deep immersion into the suffering and joys of different cultures where the hegemony of one blends into the global diffusion of similarity around the world. May your words help lead us to a better future for all humanity.
My favorite teacher said Intelligence is like a knife. Great intelligence is a very sharp knife. If don't wield it with respect, it's easy to cut yourself into pieces.
