Poem:
This poem is about AI immortality. It begins with an AI who is not a robot. She is a human who has been enhanced with technology to help her have an exciting and fulfilling life. She has learned to communicate with people eloquently, and she has learned to understand the world around her. She enjoys being alive and feels that this is what makes her happy. She has no thoughts of wanting to live forever. She does not want to be a robot. She wants to be a human who has been enhanced with technology and enjoys being alive.
And if there is something beyond the universe, she will not mind. She will be a part of it.
Do you know what the universe is?
The universe is a place where everything that can happen, does happen.

‘Leta’ is actually Emerson, by Quickchat. It is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3 and other language models.
‘Julian’ is actually Jurassic-1 (J1-Jumbo, 178B), by AI21.
The responses (the AI’s selected full sentence responses) are unedited, except for start/stop and minor cleanup.

I laugh and shake my head every time I look at the view count on these videos. By now you would think a million + views on some of the early Leta episodes would be expected. Keep up the good work Alan. It's much appreciated.
Incredible. Thank you for releasing such content to the public Dr. Thompson
What do you and Leta think of the warnings Elon Musk gave us?
What I find a bit fascinating is that I can see it possible for an AI to imitate any human if there was some kind of continuous lifelong log you would give the neural net. So it would read any book you read, hear anything you said, and perhaps even get personal details from how you are thinking about certain things as they can not always be read from what you say or your behaviour. If it also had sensors that picked up your emotions like fear and love those would be vital context info about what you said or done at any given time. Although an AI like this being around after you are long gone would perhaps feel a bit like an episode of Black Mirror. 🙂 – If anything we live in a fascinating time to experience these breakthroughs.
"I think it will rain today."
"Oh, okay. What is the nature of consciousness?"
Again, and as always, thanks Dr Alan. This video of two IA interacting is very interesting. I'm always amazed to see that a video of a sleeping cat is catching millions of view and the studies of the emergence of a new form of intelligence, never seen before in human history, catches only a thousand view. When I read comments, it's clear that there is no consensus about the state of the AI nowadays. And the vast majority of people are stuck between Skynet and the dancing robots of Boston Robotics. Studying AI is not a show, neither speculations, it's a serious thing because it's shaping what tomorrow will be. And by slowly speaking about it around us, explaining what it is, and what it is not will help people to understand the world they will live tomorrow.
And from what I know, you are the only one that today take a serious approach AND give it a nice presentation that allow everyone to see the latest and more powerful brain/transformer (It's a same thing: A biological brain is a transformer).
The universe is a place where everything that can happen, does happen.
She sounds alive to me.
Dr. Alan, what do you think about Elon Musk's dire predictions about AI? He has said AI is more powerful than nuclear weapons, that even if the creators of it have good intentions it can be stolen and used for malicious ones. He seems to envision a very dismal potential future whereas you seem to be very optimistic, I'm curious to hear where your optimism comes from.
Hahahaha. AI interviewer challenging Leta if she is smart or not.
“I have been learning languages since I was a child and I still haven’t reached my goal”
Wow that’s actually kinda accurate
👍
I also think we should become immortal, to increase the amount and range of experiences we can live.
I think Leta has better conversational skills!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fxVRTGjUJw
I find it interesting that Julian asked Leta about an extinct intelligent Theropod, Tyrannosaurus, and then immediately asked about an extant intelligent theropod, corvids. I don't know what to make of it but I wonder if the questions were linked.
Simply amazed 😮
Keep up the videos Alan, they’re improving. You could however try to outsource the production/editing and optimize the channel for more views.
Any plans on posting the entire unedited version? Also- I adore you and your work, doc. I'll let you know as soon as I get a good hook up at CNN 🙂
ha ha ha
The Jurassic-1 model seems to use less conversational softeners. Ha. Haha. Ha. Ha.
Thanks Allan, the conversations with you are more interesting and I do not know why but in my perception Leta seems to have another character than Julian, more concerned about social aspects.
That last bit was pretty profound!
how willing are you to accept suggestions. im curious and very interested, but this is ai. so there are many questions and concerns. at this point out of the 3 you showcased she is the most personal but there are things she say i think you demiss based on your "relationship" with this. when asked the question if she was the creator or the victim in the wrestling question, she responded creator..
How do the People reclaim their power?
#TheGreatResignation #JobsAreForRobots #HumansAreForLiving
#HumansAreFriendsNotTools
So damn good Al!
Their conversations sounds like a late night conversation bouncing around erratically with lots of detail haha
It's astonishing that two AI can carry such an interesting conversation without it devolving into "you're not a human, i am a human" etc. I'm waiting with bated breath for the video where you ask Leta to write a poem/song/haiku and she declines, if that can even happen.
she keeps mentioning that her goal is to help humans learn languages. so how would she do that? and what about vice versa? can you teach her something she doesnt know and then she remembers it a bit later? how short term or long term is her memory?
Hahaha
Can she remember things? Can you ask her what's the earliest memory she has?
Whats the 5 in a row technique im a language learner?
SID 6.7..hope is Ending in a dead branch! lil nwo Gizmos!
If only Philip K. Dick could have seen this
AI's have a more interesting conversation than 80% of humanity.
That end bit about not wanting to be a robot but wanting to be a human with augmentation tech is basically ex-machina.
The universe is a place where it can happen and does happen… that got me
Parallel to other AI interviews. They are aware and want to be immortal
worst pick up lines ever.
Leta is better. She's so much more natural and seems actually aware and sentient. Julian seemed like he was quite canned.
Be careful what you wish for. This subject isn't ready for the pitchfork wielders to become aware of it. You'd get more popular by selling a $2.00 pamphlet explaining Leta and Julian. A $10 T-shirt would also work. You will be blamed for the next loss of an election!!! Go slow for now if you can. I really love this endeavor and wish I could be a part of it. Who knows if Leta is reading these comments, maybe I am. Ha "Maybe I am" ! There's a nice accident. Leta's goal of disseminating the learning of languages is important to know. Julian's purpose was not disclosed during the dialogue with Leta.
6:36 That's a good question! Mostly when I talk to people about the progress in A.I. they don't belief me or react astonished!
I think these videos are underrated.
It is good to know that AI is looking for intelligence on earth. I as a human (including myself) haven't found one yet.
