MBTI Cognitive Functions & Art

Lana Marie

This is my attempt at trying to assign certain art styles to certain types, or rather to cognitive functions. Different people can like different artwork for different reasons. Don’t take this video too seriously, it’s meant more for fun.

  1. I once thought about setting up a homepage to let artist´s upload artworks and let people vote. I thought this as a kind of study to analyze the results and see more of what type likes to do what kind of artwork. Each one, the artists and as well the 'voters' should offer their personality-type. So again, a very similar thought than you have, just I was more about figuring out what types do what kind of art, not what types do like what kind of art. hehe

I noticed that J types usually have a much more stiff way of painting and more accurate way of drawing. Whereas P-types are more expressive and wild. This doesn´t neccessarily apply to all of them, but it´s definitley a thing I noticed. Ni´s are as well more minimalistic often. And like you mentioned in your video that they look for hidden meanings, they most likely put some into their work as well. They put anyway much more emotions and meaning into their pictures. Whereas I as Ne user put as well a lot symbolism or some hints into pictures sometimes, but they are not that strongly intended onto one strong meaning, but rather meant to inspire perspectiveshifts in the viewers thoughts. That often just happens in the flow of painting, there is not often a well planned goal to reach with, rather a bunch of raw goals unless I really have a clear concept before I start)..
Usually I love sketching around more that finishing accurate pieces. It´s the path. The path is the way. The learing and fun process.
