A seven minute look at how Mel McCuddin creates his unique paintings with a series of oil painting techniques where Mel “finds the image” within the abstract expressionist “underpainting” that he makes first. This process creates a spontaneity that leads to some very interesting results.

You seems to be so happy with your art! I love the expressive freedom of your creative process.
I totally get his way…
1 minute in and I love you already. I too look for the images the come forth. Your paintings are beautiful and truly evoke an emotion.
Love this work
Wonderfully creative
That is exactly I was looking for thank you!
What amazing brilliant and INTERESTING and FUN paintings and he comes over as lovely man! I sometimes work like this (I see faces in loads of paint splodges/marks) but have never made anything as wonderful as his paintings, his talent is extraordinary.
And yes: how to know when to STOP, not over-do it = that takes years of learning/experience plus a good memory to REMEMBER it – which I haven't got because of my brain injury: learn, forget, learn, forget, relearn…
Love this
I keep coming back to this video when I need a jolt of inspiration to paint. Mel is such an amiable, inspiring and wonderful artist/person. And his paintings are haunting, mysterious and darkly comical. Can totally relate to his approach to creating art, and making out shapes in his under-painting. Thanks for existing Mel!
You are truly amazing. I have lost count on how many times I’ve watched this video. I would love to come to your studio and spend hours watching you paint.

Firstly why aren`t you famous ?! Second you seem a truly beautiful human being & a wonderfully unique artist … really love the work ! …THANK YOU SO MUCH !
ps …………..Please make more vids!
This sounds so much like a form of Apophenia called "Pareidolia", perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists. Kinda like seeing "The Man in the Moon" It is possibly related to Austism/ Asperger's Syndrome. I am an Aspie btw lol, and see faces all the time in wallpaper, linoleum patterns haha
I love this video and watching the technique!
Wow very interesting love your work
He laughs when he’s talking
Amazing art. I love it..
1:02 … is that an anime girl behind his head??
for 77 man looks young
I love it 🙂
Thanks for sharing Mel's style. I like the figurative painting style. Very interesting how he works to not overwork the painting. I think a lot of painters face this issue.
Love the work. It's called pareidolia by the way. Yeah, you're all too human like the rest of us.
This terrific glimpse into the artist, his work and technique is very inspiring. There is a lot to learn here.
This is amazing… This is what they call painting one's mind… It's a reflection of the reality around you in the painting…, and the realities around us make-up our back stories, which in turn is our personalities, and that's what makes us individual humanbeings and it's what makes us Human… ?? Or maybe be am overthinking this, yaa that's exactly me…
2:10 there was a perfect green elephant's head ,the eye was perfect …
I like his style.
