My brother went to the Royal Institution last week for one of the Christmas Lectures, which are filmed for BBC4.
He was chosen as one of the volunteers to help with experiments, and this is the only recording i’ve been able to get so far.
He is given an iron, then carbon fiber bar, each of the same size. When asked which one he thought had the greater strength to weight ratio, he answered, correctly, that he thought it was the carbon fiber bar.
Then he was given a piece of iron of the same weight as the carbon fiber bar and bent it easily, proving his answer correct, and concluding the experiment.

The video was recorded from a television using a video camera on a tripod, since we didn’t have any other way to acquire the footage.
On a side note, the shirt he is wearing was a gift i got him in Tokyo 🙂

@MattyHo07 He is very much like me, or at least how i was at his age
I like the guy's reaction when your brother was correct.
@angrypunkbronxkid I loved that he was surprised. I think I might have mentioned carbon fiber being very strong for it's weight a long while ago and my brother doesn't seem to be able to forget things like that. He's only 12, but i'd want him on my pub quiz team
I was afraid he'd got him with the "strength-to-wait-ratio" terminology, but no-sir!
I'm not surprised, you're a smart guy and he can't be that far behind. 🙂
