I’d like to thank the organizers from PowerPoetry.com for their appreciation of my poem and for working with me to finalize my submission.
In this poem I detail my main reason as to why I write poetry. Poetry is a means of expression that enables me to overcome language barriers and the only place I feel proud of my voice. Speech, in whichever language, has always been a problem of mine. I never really felt proud of my voice until I found poetry and saw that words aren’t the only method to express myself. I meet Sarah Kay (a prominent slam poet) my senior year and she had a huge influence on me actually pursuing slam poetry. All in all I am just absolutely overjoyed with the thought that my poem actually touched the hearts of others.
