Patternmaking Fundamentals for the 3d Artist – Marvelous Designer/Clo3d/Everyone

Daniel

This is one I’ve wanted to do for a while now. It’s what I wish I had known when I started out, because the basic structural elements of patterns are never explained, it’s just “this goes here and you do it”. So I worked hard on this one, I really hope I explain things well enough.

I’ll keep making videos, and sharing what I know, and they will always be free, but I have set up a donation link, and if you’d like to donate and you can afford it, that would be awesome too.

  2. I did go to some expensive fashion schools and worked in the industry for some time and wow nobody was really able to teach dart manipulation this effectively. Really wish we had clo back then. Thanks for this awesome tutorial mate

  3. Came to learn basics about Marvelous Designer…left with a strong respect for darts, curves and angles. Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much.

  4. Thank You so much! If only you could make a complete detailed course on MD and explain everything like you do here I would be the first person to buy it. You have a gift. Please do make the course long and detailed and don't skip anything Explain all the keys you are pressing. The course should be going from novice to advance. I'm ready to buy.

  5. Really helpful stuff right here! Thank you Daniel, it's much clearer now how this things work 💙
p.s. It was a surprise to see some patterns from Soviet magazines/Russian forums 🙂

  6. Hi Daniel! This is the most valuable MD tutorial I ever saw! I learned to use the tools in MD earlier but I never understood the basics of darts, curvatures and angles. I struggled a lot with figuring out what to do and I was thinking to apply to real-life sewing courses to understand these. Now you showed almost everything! Thank you very much! 🙂 Can't wait to make some new garments with this newly learned knowledge. Btw, I'm thinking to switch over to Clo3D. The fullness tool looks like something I always needed but never knew about 🙂

  7. I have never understood darts. No matter how many tutorials I looked at and what I read they didn’t make sense. In 30 minutes you explained them so well and I cannot thank you enough. You are absolutely incredible!!! I can’t wait to watch the rest of this video and all of your others!!!

  8. Really enjoyed your live stream today! Learned a lot! Thanks for telling me about this video ^.^ Been using MD10 a lot today and really love the new interface!

  9. I've watched all of your videos (except streams, cause they are too long for me to watch), and I can say this – your channel is the best source of knowledge on Marvelous Designer (or Clo3d) out there, free or paid. And I've watched a lot of the stuff on that topic, so I know what I'm talking about. Thank you for your great work and keep on going!

  10. Many thanks Daniel for this course. As always full of good advices, tips and tricks. You have a definite talent for teaching and passing on knowledge. What people may not realize is that it took you a lot of your own time to build that knowledge and your are spending even more of your time teaching (and for free!) Really grateful. Thanks again

  11. This should be standard MD/CLO3D training for everyone, thank you so much – it helps the fitting / refitting, creation of patterns towards a character and understanding of the why followed by the how to achieve the what. Only downside is that I immediately saw all the changes I need to make to all the garments I created to far to make them better (ok, that is an upside, too).

  12. I DID go to fashion college and spent 20 years in the industry, You definitely have a vast knowledge of sewing details. I am super new to MD (1 month in) and This is completely different from using illustrator/photoshop (what most of us use to design). Your videos have helped me IMMENSELY! thank yoy!
