So our art critic, Jerry Saltz, took a replica of Guernica underground, in the hopes of learning what New Yorkers make of it and helping them understand the work.

  1. The significance really goes away when you realize that this painting was commissioned by the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War and they used it for their own propaganda reasons. Guernica, in actuality was a small thing made big through Picaso's propaganda effort

  2. I have stood in front of this painting in December 2001 just after 9/11 and just after the death of my father. I carried with me a small album with pictures I took from the World Trade Center. Everywhere people said “ I am sorry about New York”. Near the Reina Sofia is the Atocha Train station that has a lovely Green House. One of the friends I made in Madrid was given my picture album as I left Madrid. In 2004 Atocha and other train station were bombed. I messaged my friend and said “ Sorry about Madrid”.

  3. This is a good , educational , video , however , the cameraperson , or the narrator , should have recognized that , the shiny covering reflections over the master's work is an insult to the creator and the viewer .
