Pinpointing the Seat of Human Consciousness

Harvard Medical School

Philosophers have long struggled to define human consciousness. Now, a team of researchers led by neurologists at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has pinpointed the regions of the brain that may play a role maintaining it.

  1. There is that mind-consciousness…..whether it religion or science or philosophy….
When I dream a dream, WHO is the dreamer….? When you find a Black Hole, WHO sees and understands the black hole….When I believe in GOD….who is the BELIEVER?

  2. The seat of consciousness is in the heart according to Advaita Vedanta. The brain boosts the signal. As we fall asleep, consciousness withdraws back to the heart – and the brain, for a while, continues it's activity with the weakening heart signal resulting in dreams as our freer imagination is still being somewhat magnified by the brain. Then finally as consciousness retreats entirely to the heart and the brain slows right down we enter deep dreamless sleep. And it's interesting to observe, as if a hint from nature, that if anyone answers a question with the words "I am" while gesturing to themselves, they will point to the chest and never the skull.

  3. Those Asian students who got rejected by Harvard and sued the university are losers. You don't have to attend or graduate from this school in order to be successful in life.

  4. Consciousness is the smooth wave pattern produced in the brain's em field through synchronized neural firing. Neural computations that don't achieve synchronal firing don't pass into the sensorium and remain unconscious. That is the hypothesis I believe.

  5. This is going to be an extremely long and perhaps a little that will probably make no sense, it will also be quite repetitive and I'm sorry but please read the story if you want too 🙂

I understand that consciousness can be energy and energy can not created nor can it be destroyed but that doesn't mean that "you" and "I" will ever experience anything once brain dead. You know, every time one goes into a deep sleep, or is in a coma, we usually have no conscious experience, it's just nothingness for us, oh and our brains activity is pretty low, now I'm not saying that it will be the same when we actually die but something's telling me that once all brain activity ceases, than our consciousness will be the exact same as when in a deep sleep or in a coma….. which is next to none, no consciousness whatsoever but that's what I think anyway, I don't think reality itself allowed us to be conscious before we were born and I don't think it will ever allow us to be conscious after we die, I highly believe we will just cease to exist. Now, you could say that as children, we remember our past lives, but as children, you have to remember, that our brains at say 3 years old can still make up some vivid memories that may seem real and this is why children have the most intense vivid dreams because their brains don't know the difference between real and fantasy… You may get some children that may talk about living somewhere and somehow they know the place, that seems like evidence that our consciousness transferred but if past lived are indeed a reality, I don't think the "you" gets transferred into another body, I think that "you" would just cease to exist and those atoms would just go into the brain of another human, and yes you might say that it's always "you" because it's your atoms but what if those atoms change? Or what if those atoms stay the same but the other human just has your memories? I don't believe we, as in "you" and "I" go on, I think we just cease to exist and that maybe consciousness travels but it wouldn't be us anymore, just someone else with our memories. Like a clone, basically, it has your memories but is not "you"

  6. I can't understand the concept behind this phenomenon. Why can't we just consider it is the part of the brain through which consciousness express itself. Electrical stimulation of certain parts of the brain just confirm there is correlation between consciousness and relevant parts of the brain. Beyond that no one knows. Even the God may not know! If consciousness is the physical emergence phenomenon through complexity which itself is a magic how can consciousness explain consciousness itself. If it is a physical phenomenon how can we aware that we are aware of something. So consciousness is a meta physical phenomenon which is beyond the realm of neuroscience.

  7. It's outside of time, is my view, maybe the very stuff of creative energy? where is the follow up though? Any other findings relating to this??
