Professor Donald Hoffman is an American cognitive psychologist at the University of California.
We’ve got a mind-blowing episode for you today, and one that may needed to be re-listened to multiple times. In Doanld’s book ‘The Case Against Reality’, Donald argues that perception doesn’t present things as they are but instead acts like a desktop interface enabling us to interact with the world.
Donald’s theory in the Case against reality is that evolution has pulled the wool over our eyes and for that reason, we don’t see reality as it is. What a sensational claim.
In this podcast, we examine the very foundations of consciousness. What it is, why we haven’t found a theory for it yet, will we ever find one and Donald’s mathematical theory of consciousness. We also explore other ideas that include why is evolution hiding reality from us?
What is the nature of consciousness is one of the biggest unanswered questions in science today. Here, we take a crack at it. I hope you enjoy this episode, with the incredibly thought provoking Professor Donald Hoffman.

Reality is never real, if you never do get the punch lines.
The headline that couples Consciousness Reality and Evolution together as the subject of discussion is fundamentally misleading as borne out by the manner in which Prof Hoffman looks into questions and responses to the general and specific notions about the scientific theory and understanding of things like the historical perspective of classic physics, neuroscience, time/space and natural selection theory and so on.
The fact that the human brain as the working agent for the physical and psychological aspects has clearly become what it currently consists of subjectively and objectively through evolutionary processes as a mechanistic phenomenon which may be studied by measurement due to the structures of reality and evolutionary biological concepts assisted by linguistic aspects and linear projections using the science of binary methodology. What is not clear is the question of consciousness itself and exactly what part does or doesn’t it play with regards to the other two elements ie. reality and evolution whether from the human or non-human living knowledge and experiences.
Hoffman explains that from the standpoint of time space having reached the end point of its usefulness in explaining the meaning of everything, he seems to be convinced that the other force “consciousness“ carries the missing link mystery and if and when the full meaning is discovered by mathematical
Reality is real and our senses can observe it.
his sincerity is touching ..
sad, in some way, that he is a prisoner of his discipline, and not allowed the full flowing shakti of the mystic, but this is how the academic world evolves ..
the multidimensionality of consciousness awaits 🙂
