Lewis Dartnell is a research scientist, presenter and author. His most recent book, The Knowledge, looks at the essential information and skills needed to rebuild after an apocalypse.
Rosalind Eggo is a mathematical modeller at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She builds mathematical and computational models to explain how diseases spread through populations, with the aim of designing interventions that can prevent that spread. She has worked on models to understand the transmission of Ebola, influenza, other respiratory viruses and Zika.
Vinay Gupta is a technologist and policy analyst with a particular interest in how specific technologies can close or create new avenues for decision makers. This interest has taken him through cryptography, energy policy, defence, security, resilience and disaster management arenas. He is the founder of Hexayurt.Capital, a fund which invests in creating the Internet of Agreements™. He is known for his work on the hexayurt, a public domain disaster relief shelter designed to be build from commonly-available materials, and with Ethereum, a distributed network designed to handle smart contracts.
Hugh Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Southampton, author of the space debris evolutionary model DAMAGE and he lead the Astronautics Research Group’s space debris and space situational awareness activities. He is also a member of the UK’s delegation to the UN Space Mission Planning Advisory Group, a roundtable of experts who discuss how to prepare an international response to near Earth objects (ie asteroids).
This talk was filmed at the Royal Institution on 28 June 2017.

I studied this subject a while ago in College, One aspect that wasn't covered and is a greater threat in my belief, is the idea of "Negative" thinking. Simply put, Humanity simply stops Reproducing, Stops going to work,Mass Suicide and Society simply Breaks Down falling into a never ending Spiral of Doom….."Negative Thinking Takes over, Humanity Becoming Extinct" Headline
It is going to happen, in the next couple of hundred years, or sooner if Donald Trump has anything to do with it but preparation is really a waste of time because we have no idea what will occur or how it will occur.
You can only really prepare properly for you more localized disasters like earthquakes, volcanoes etc and even then preparation is probably not enough or far too much; just look at Japan… The disaster was really bad but it was localized and their preparations were inadequate but the rest of the country was totally in control…
Why was this reuploaded?
211 views, and a lot of empty seats in the theater? This is the Royal Institution. If I lived nearby, I would go there every time I could get a ticket. These are always good lectures, by the worlds leading experts in their field. I simply cannot understand the lukewarm interest this channel and it's content is getting. It's not too brainy, there are kids in the audience asking really clever questions. I am quite sure everybody doesn't know all the stuff discussed, so where does this lack of curiosity come from?

My rapture has ruptured – how sad,
Didn't happen today – makes me mad –
I gave all my money, and my house – not so funny –
Now I have nothing – that's bad! ¯(ツ)/¯
Great talk, I just wish that guy would stop trying to sell his book.
The "Strategic Condiment Reserve" is not the kind of thing that happens when you start thinking about apocalypse seriously. No hungry person will refuse a burger because it hasn't got sauce on it. I do not like to draw this bow but it is extremely unfortunate that Gupta appears to not know what true hunger is like if he really does think that is a serious planning requirement.
