Lee Smolin is a theoretical physicist, co-inventor of loop quantum gravity, and a contributor of many interesting ideas to cosmology, quantum field theory, the foundations of quantum mechanics, theoretical biology, and the philosophy of science. He is the author of several books including one that critiques the state of physics and string theory called The Trouble with Physics, and his latest book, Einstein’s Unfinished Revolution: The Search for What Lies Beyond the Quantum.

I think you get to choose where to collapse the wave function by deciding when to look.
Lets goooooo. Thank you lex for continually bringing us new knowledge and opening our minds to a greater capacity of thinking and imagination. Keep it up fellow yid
I think The future doesn't exist because you have the power to change it now, that power gives you all the same options as the ones you took or thought about in the past. so I believe your future is determinable by deciding to do or not to do. not by deciding what to do. action at a distance is not connected by space but by time.
What if we keep breaking it down yet only endup getting close yet not being able to point "to all-that-is"
Amazing bit a always!
If light bends around things with lots of mass does that mean something is exerting a force on the light?
Man, you are like my hero. Thanks for asking great questions to great people.
Refreshing and entertaining. The solution to the unsolvable is potential. That which unifies the Universe is potential.
12.16 minutes before I got lost in the unrepresented future. …………………………..O.k, ready, to continue.
Lex can you please invite both Sean and Lee in like a fireside chat setup of some sort?

Wouldn't the force that unites big/small observed/observer, be us? Humans? We are at the intersection of both, since every thing is at the center of its universe
Fundamental is F (neologism, not energy, matter, time, etc). Task scheduler of F 1, 2, 3, etc. Each F step includes which F to execute. Gravity (and correlated concepts time, matter, etc.) relates to process loop. Starting with random or "fair"/"impartial" process loop gives gravity as a consequence of opportunity cost. It takes longer to process F steps as they build correlations with other Fs (iow more "matter", slower "time"). A measurement is an F step of correlation. It's not necessarily many worlds or not many worlds, the decision to focus on either is the continuation of this F step evaluation loop. Each of us is one of these evaluation processes, i.e. an F step.
The important part is the neologism, because "time", "matter", etc., carry the vestigial training wheels of pre quantum/relativity concepts.
Ahh yt comments…
Thanks for the vid 👍
It is really hard to understand the concepts talked about as I somehow have to derive from physics class from school. Things became more easily understandable when adding Rick and Morty to my thought process. Somehow the series manages to present ideas like many worlds (probably it is very different to the idea in the vid but whatever) in a to me understandable way.
Does Smolin's theory that time is linear and the future isn't here yet bear out? I was under the impression that in multiverse, time is relative, so past present future can happen simultaneously.

I 'Preciate the work good sir.
Maybe the distinction betweem fundamental and emergent is also the result of our conceptualisation. Hypotheyically, maybe one of the main pholosophical obstacles in corect undestanding of issue at hand is treatment emergent as not "determinative" for fundamental. Maybe there is something like feedback loop between emergent and fundamental. So even if spacetime emerge from relations between events, subsistence of spactime "affects" events and relations. In short maybe this determination at basic level of the cosmos is circular, not linear, determination; and it is "timeless" codependence (because time is the result of that codependence model). So maybe there is always enough of complexity in events and relations to spacetime to be emerged. And this emerged spacetime always re-defines, determinates events and relations.
More liek unfinish3d ev0lut1on amrite folks?, … Jk, lovely bit of interview, I'm looking forward to listening to the rest. Thank you.
12:49 He probably meant to say one of the weirder things about quantum mechanics, because it’s all weird.
People who don’t know what they’re talking about gesticulate a lot with their hands like this guy.
I saw Bill Gates on CNBC recently and he was going wild with his hands.
