Risto Siilasmaa shares his view on why machine learning has become topical, what it means, why you should spend more time on it and how your organization can be better prepared.

A good video …….. But what still is very strange to me is that many people think that this is new. The leading powerhouse in Machine learning and Deep Learning – SAS Institute https://www.sas.com/en_us/insights/analytics/machine-learning.html – has been doing this for business in 40 years. And b.t.w. it isn't really about machine learning, but rather software learning (algorithm learning to be precise). The tech sector loves to invent new names for old stuff – "Emperor's New Clothes". This is simply sophisticated statistical analysis of big data sets to find a pattern (with a model that is either static or dynamic) to describe the characteristics of the data set for descriptive and predictive purposes. The challenge for many businesses seems to be that the enginers are traditionally trained with deterministic approaches when looking into issues, instead of a stochastic approach that always will be the best approach when you have large data and lots of computing power. Furthermore, what needs to be parts of basic training in machine learning/analytics is the understanding of having the proper old fashioned ETL processes for ensure integrity of data quality in place to avoid garbage in garbage out problem.
This was inspiring and although I had already started that course earlier this summer, it encouraged me to continue with it. I plan to get back into coding in 1Q2018 and have ideas for some ML algos. Kiitos Risto!
HI Risto Siilasmaa, thanks for the video, it is very inspirational. I also just started learning ML few weeks ago, but the pace is very slow as my time is tied up with other daily works. 🙂 Anyway, just a friendly clarification, for the video, at 15:37 minute, if not mistaken, the function (with graph) shown in the video is TanH function, instead of Sigmoid function. Since i am new to ML too, probably you can have a double check on that to confirm. Again, thanks for publishing this video which i believe will help a lot of people who are still unsure how to start learning ML.
I support Nokia company
Thank You for the video. I have a feeling however, that AI is going to replace ingenuity like how CGI replaced props in movies.
34:10 not 205 trillion…..It's 205 billion
Sir please launch a innovative hub in INDIA to connect with students and job seeker
Think about rural India and help to transform rural society this will help u most instead of advertisement
Maybe you covered this later…but what was the environment used to run the ML simulation at https://youtu.be/KNMy7NCQDgk?t=1217 ?
Leadership by example. Inspiring!
Great Presentation! Thanks!
Nokia高階主管能夠在離開學校編寫程式語言32年後,重新學習人工智慧的技術核心ML,並且能夠以深入淺出的方式來解說,真是令人佩服。
very well explained and presented
Humans are still superior to machines in understanding Risto Siilasmaa’s English.

I dreamt about neuron networks last night after watching this 😀
